We try: Fisher and Paykel ‘Quick Smart’ washing machine:

A tried and tested winner after the first new washing machine in 18 years.

After 18 years with the same washing machine, it was time for a new one. I had purchased a Fisher and Paykel very early in my marriage and it has seen me through three children, the eldest of whom is now 15.

After a lot of research and reading what others had to say, I couldn't go past a Fisher and Paykel again - this time the Quick Smart 7.5kg front loading washing machine. I could have purchased a 5.5kg top-loading version but the energy and water rating were not as good on the top-loader.  The energy rating on this is 4 stars and the energy rating 4.5 stars.

The first thing to say is that technology has moved on! I've always been happy with my previous Fisher and Paykel washing machine. This one is not dissimilar in terms of its basic design and functioning - why change something that works well? - but the new 'quick smart' technology certainly means the Fisher and Paykel Quick Smart lives up to its name.

It has nine wash programs; it can automatically detect what water level is needed; it can balance out the load if you don't get the washing in evenly; you can set it up and put it on a start delay; it tells you clearly where, in the cycle, your wash is up to; and it also has a diagnostic tool if something goes wrong (not that anything has gone wrong).

But the best thing is just how quick it is - a load that used to take about 45 minutes, now takes around 30 minutes or less. And it really is so quiet: the old washing machine could be heard throughout the house even with doors closed, and it would also shake. This new Quick Smart is whisper quiet, so much so that I felt like I had a new baby and had to keep checking that it was actually on! There is also no shaking evident even when standing in the laundry next to it.

Overall, I am pleased I stuck with the same trusted brand. I have now had the washing machine for six weeks (and about 5-6 washes each week) and cannot fault it.

Five stars.

Purchase brand new June 2015. Took a week at trying to figure out how to work it/ why it didnt work then on holiday 3 weeks. Came back wont spin, wont heat water, stuck on 19 mins left 3 hours to complete wash. Multiple attempts to manage. Normal household washes for 4 people. Towels, clothes etc. Called service waited ages to answer (clearly very busy, 1 hour). week later service guy came, rude and did not listen. Told me it was a great machine. Told me to buy a second hose to link to hot water.  Told me the machine has the sensitivity to the load and has to balance the washing before going on. Told him 3 hours for a 58 min cycle and clothes wet when coming out was nonsense. He left.
Called service dept again days later. Same problems. Having to take cloting out of machine to drip dry. Advised I did not want the same guy as he was rude. They said they had to as it was policy. Week later came out changed the computer board. Same day tried to use again, Same problems. Called again. Waited ages. Spoke to service dept. Promised a manager would call me. Few days later a manager called. told me they would send senior tech. Text day before arrival that the original bloke was coming again.
He arrived and called sen tech from house, advised needed new balances. going to order. Could be a week.Told guy not happy. Taking time off work for services, using up heaps of electric and my time. having to drip dry clothes,  New machine, had new hose, new computer board and now new balancing. Told him I wanted it gone. He smirked and said he was just doing his job. called service dept. advised I wanted rid of machine. 3 new parts and only 2 months old. Time off work etc. Advised someonew would get back to me. Had a phone call message to say parts are ready and let them know when available.  Spoke to harvey Norman who exchanged machine no problem. Got an electrolux. Works like a dream. Dont buy fisher and paycal. Buy cheap. Buy twice.  Addit. Looks like a bit of a lottery with this machine, Reviews are either really good or crap. about 50/50/ In my opinion, i would not take those odds.
