Boys will be boys. However, as they grow up, several things change. During their teenage years, our children will start to define who they are. Usually, the process brings along activities, new ways of thinking and the need of a well defined personal space. Here’s our list of budget-friendly ideas to change your changing-son’s bedroom - for good.

1. Don’t throw the old bunk beds away; they can be easily repurposed, providing your teenage son with a space to study, play or simply hang around. The one below works great for small bedrooms where space needs to be wisely used.

2. Every area can be defined by a purpose. In this example, the ‘bed area’ goes beyond the actual bed, transforming the space into a general relaxing area. Also a great idea to keep using the old bunkbed. Find out more here.

3. The room below is functional and simple, almost spartan. It relies a lot in visuals- posters, pictures and prints play a big role in the room’s life. More about this inexpensive idea, here.

4. Some teenagers are more outdoorsy than others, meaning they’ll be spending more time outside than inside their rooms. If that’s the case, don’t spend money in‘stuff’, but focus on a good bed. The whole purpose of the room is to act as a place to rest and recover energies.

5. One great approach is to provide space instead of things, and let the teenager decide about the use of it. Results can be surprising.

6. This pallet bed is not only a budget-friendly idea, but also a practical one: the wheels can redefine the room in a minute. If your son needs extra space for activities (such as exercise, playing an instrument, studying), all he needs to do is move the bed away.

7. If your son loves reading, he’ll love this room. A simple desk and reading lamp set the mood for those who like to lose themselves into a book.

8. Simplicity can go a long way when space’s in short supply. It’s always good to remember two things: what does your son need and what does he want. The room will (and should) reflect your kid’s personality and remain useful at the same time.

9. Learn about your son’s new interests. Does he likes sports? Games? Star Wars? Good ideas for room decoration can be found everywhere.

10. Recycle, recycle, recycle. Your son’s toys - like the ones below - can be transformed into cool, practical additions for his room.

11. There’s no reason to waste space, even if you have plenty of it. Here, some practical ideas to make the most of every room.

12. This last room shows the importance of light when it comes to distribution. Sometimes, a few rearrangements make big differences - for little to no money!
