Second Hand Baby Clothes

Aussie Mums and Dads are selling their second hand baby goods because there is genuine money to be made and often it’s the thrill of the chase. One of the best ways to save money when you have a young family is to buy second hand baby clothes. Babies grow so fast they usually don’t stay the same size for more than a month or two. You’d be surprised at how high quality/near-new some of the items are on Gumtree.  When buying second hand baby clothes online you should be able to see if the item is in a good condition; e.g. all buttons, zippers and clasps are secure. If the photos or description don’t go into enough detail simply use the My Messages feature on Gumtree to ask the seller about the item’s condition.

Shoes are another item babies grow out of quickly and are perfect items to buy second hand as they’ve usually only been worn a few times. Seasonal items such as coats and hats are also great items to buy or sell second hand as your child will likely grow out of them by the time winter rolls around again.

Second Hand Baby goods

Change tables, rocking chairs, and second hand baby toys are the best items to buy online. Always make sure the used furniture meets safety standards. The easiest way to check this is by asking for the user manual or doing your research to make sure it hasn’t been recalled. Once you meet the seller face to face, check the items condition.

Those baby items you no longer need could put some money in your back pocket and go towards a loving home. It’s a win, win! Here are our top five tips for buying and selling second hand baby items online

Tips for selling second hand baby items online

1. Be honest: Dedicate time to research what’s out there and the average price of similar baby goods to make sure you’re setting a fair price.

2. Be descriptive:  Describe your baby product, including its features, a brief history, reasons for selling the item and most importantly the safety tips and standards. The more information you provide, the more likely you are to make a sale at the price you’re looking for.

3. Upload high quality photos: Upload high quality images to make sure your listing stands out from the rest.

4. Manage your listing: Ensure you keep on top of incoming ad responses. Communicate quickly and directly with potential buyers through My Messages and download the Gumtree app on your phone so you can manage your ad on the go.

5. Always meet face-to-face: When buying or selling, it’s important to meet in-person to see the item and exchange money. For personal ease and safety, have someone with you if a buyer is coming to your home or workplace.

Tips for buying second hand baby items online

1. Ask questions: Gumtree has a My Messages feature which allows you to communicate freely with the seller. Find out the item’s history by asking questions like; Does your baby item have any faults? How long have they had the item? Where and when was it bought?

2. Research the price: Dedicate time to research what’s out there and the average price of similar baby goods to make sure you’re setting a fair price.

3. Meet in person: Gumtree recommends you meet the seller and view the item before exchanging money. For personal ease and safety it’s always a good idea to take someone with you, plus they can give you a second opinion before you commit to buying.

4. Manage your message: Keep on top of your incoming responses from the seller by downloading the Gumtree app on your phone.

5. Inspect it thoroughly: This is particularly important for items like strollers, cribs and cots. It’s important to check the item to make sure there are no faults.
