What are mums doing online cover

Whilst the democratic nature of the internet means that it offers something for everyone, it’s interesting to see how we don’t necessarily use the internet in the same ways.

Our nation’s mums have revealed some fascinating habits about how they use the web in their spare time. A recent study by an Australian marketing firm showed how Australian mums are less likely to do things like streaming music and videos, but they are instead to be found entering competitions, doing shopping and even playing online games.

Whilst every busy mum might not be surprised to find that we don’t use our smartphones so much for personal entertainment, what’s interesting is that the new web environment offers us some innovative ways to relax when we’re finally completed all of the daily tasks!

Winning in the online domain

With 77% of Australian mothers having a smartphone, it’s become easy for most of us to take part in the nation’s growing competition culture that regularly fills our newspapers with headlines of lucky winners who won big from their mobile device.

In addition to this, the online pokies revolution has helped thousands of mums enjoy hundreds of classic gameplay options over at the Lucky Nugget Casino site that shows that it’s not just teenagers who can enjoy a little online gaming.

Shopping and research

The online domain has also provided us mums with an endless way to spend our winnings. Mums are massive participants in online auction sites like eBay, private sales sites like Gumtree Australia, and the hugely popular CatchOfTheDay site that has helped all of us find plenty of tempting bargains online.

There’s also a wealth of health information online that has become popular amongst many of our country’s mums. Whether it’s The Wonder Weeks app providing a little guidance about our little ones’ behaviour, or even our own use of MyFitnessPal’s calorie counting app, it’s clear that we’re better informed about health issues than ever.

Socialising from home

And finally, it’s worth mentioning that us mums are also increasingly turning to social media sites like Facebook and Instagram for socialising online. Although there have been studies that have shown how spending too much time on Facebook can cause issues of anxiety, it’s helped many of us stay in touch with friends and family in a way that was unimaginable just a decade ago.

So whether we’re using our smartphones to access those lucrative competitions and online pokies games, or keeping ourselves better informed about the health of our family, it seems that us mums are finding many ways to stay occupied online!
