6 Tips For Keeping Your Home Pest-Free This Season

Rodents and bugs and mites – oh my! If you have had pest problems before, you know just how important this pest free tips are, and if you haven’t yet had the displeasure… listen up. Your house is your happy place, and unfortunately there is a whole ecosystem outside of it that agrees with you and would like to be a resident. Don’t be a cautionary tale and get proactive.

1. Get an expert opinion

Not too many people are keen to put their hand up for pest control. That’s what the professionals are for, right? Not only are you guaranteed they will fix the problem, but they will give you the what, when and why so that you can avoid those unwelcome guests in the following seasons. Pest control in the Mornington Peninsula area has gained a proven track record for both banishing and preventing pests.

2. Inspect your home and tidy up the yard

Well, I suppose this is good practise no matter how you look at it. The fact is, you should be inspecting your yard and home at the end of each season to make sure there are no new points of entry, no moist spots and no foliage bridging the pests’ journey to the home. Perhaps that hole in the downstairs laundry wasn’t a concern last year, but now it’s starting to be quite an entry. Find the products, and tidy them!

3. Clean your kitchen and bins

Ok, this is starting to sound like a nag, but there are so many parts that make up a pest-free home. Crumbs and food waste are the next meal for ants, bugs and rodents so doing the dishes and taking the bins out before bed is always necessary. It’s also a good idea to have bins in each room so there is no excuse not to clean up after yourself. Compost bins outside are great for the environment, but make sure they are kept lidded and tidy or you will regret it.

4. Rid your property of excess moisture

Nothing more homey than a warm bed, but for terminates it’s all about a wet moist home. When you conduct a regular walk around your home and property always keep an eye out for excess moisture, especially when wood is connecting with that moisture. It might be as simple as cleaning gutters, fixing a dripping tap or better draining in the garden or under your house. It might be worth getting an expert opinion considering the damage terminates can do to your property – it’s worth the peace of mind!

5. Control fruit bearing

Great job for those out there who can grow and maintain fruit and vegetables patches on their property. But before you let them run wild like something out of Secret Garden, remember that food for you is also food for a pest. If possible, keep those fruit-bearing bushes and trees as far from the house as you can and keep them trimmed regularly. When the produce is ready to be picked make sure you do so before they attract pests.

6. Good ventilation

Allowing those small spaces and forgotten corners to remain closed up and unventilated will create a mildewy, mouldy environment that will play host to various pests. If for security reasons you cannot keep windows, doors or vents open all day make it a part of your weekend routine to get some air and sun to those rooms.

A change of season is always exciting, but not if it means you have uninvited guests moving in. Follow these easy tips and remember to employ both a reactive and proactive approach to keeping your home pest-free.
