After mixed reactions to last week’s announcement of Greg Page’s come back and Sam Moran’s departure - The Wiggles are getting on with business, launching a Wiggle Alphabet Adventure App for iPad.

The App is designed to help children aged between two to six years improve their communication skills in an entertaining and fun way. It takes them on a journey through the letters of the alphabet from crunching into an apple to meeting friendly animals at the zoo.

The Wiggles said in a media statement that after 20 years in the industry, they continue to entertain children with their unique and engaging performances and areembracing technology as an innovative way for their young fans to further interact with them.

“The Wiggles’ Alphabet Adventure is an exciting new app that integrates technology into children's play and encourages and enhances learning,” said Dr Kathleen Warren, Education Advisor to The Wiggles.

The App launch comes after Sunday Telegraph journalist, Elizabeth Meryment described The Wiggles as “untalented buffoons” in her column and said the show was “devoid of anything intelligent, funny or nurturing...a show that not only has no artistic, musical or educational merit whatsoever, but which has acted primarily as a vehicle for pushing merchandising crap upon toddlers.”

The Wiggles’ Alphabet Adventure App, developed by Salmat Digital, is available for $2.99 from the App Store on iPad or at http://itunes.apple.com/au/app/the-wiggles-alphabet-adventure/id489751004?ls=1&mt=8

What is your view of The Wiggles? Do you agree with Elizabeth Meryment that The Wiggles is a vehicle for pushing merchandise on children? Will you be buying the App?

I agree they are a marketing vehicle…but it works! Kids love it.
