When Winter hits town, so too do the grumbles. The days are too short, there’s not enough sunshine, the temperature is cold, it rains, we can’t get outside. The weather’s not making us feel happy. We long for the Spring that heralds the warmth of Summer. But do we have to wait for Winter to leave before we enjoy life again? No. Try these tips. Get on and enjoy Winter. It’s good for your health.

YOU CAN ENJOY WINTER

There’s no need to simply endure wintertime. When cold and rainy weather arrives, it’s time to take mental action – to raise one’s enjoyment level and revel in everything the winter season has to offer – trips to the snow, delicious soups, hearty meals, winter vegies and fruits, a warm bed and cosy doona, to name a few.

TIPS:

  • Don’t sit around waiting for summer skies to make you happy. Have a grateful heart. Fill your mind with the sunshine of gladness and gratitude. Give thanks for the good in your life. Be grateful for the roof over your head, good food and warm clothing. Be glad when the “raindrops of divinity” fall. They refresh the earth, cleanse the atmosphere, replenish rainwater tanks and town reservoirs. Gratitude defeats wintery-type thoughts and adds a sparkle to every day.
  • Don’t wait for better sunnier times to arrive. Beat the winter blues. Live in the present. Happiness is here and now. Make the most of today. Enjoy it. Don’t waste time worrying about tomorrow. "Can any of you add a single hour to your life by worrying?” The Bible, Matthew 6:27
  • Appreciate the loving warmth of family, friends, and workmates. Winter doesn’t change them, the help they generously give, or the good things they do. Appreciating their special acts of kindness brightens-up the greyest of days.
  • Don’t stay trapped in winter gloom. Be like the small canary that was mistakenly shut inside a cupboard. Although in darkness, it started singing. The result? It was found and set free. On overcast days, free yourself from melancholy emotions. Strike up a song! Let the words of a freedom-generating, joy-bringing song or hymn light up your thinking.
  • Let health-bringing thoughts glow in your thinking. Right now, “Hold thought steadfastly to the enduring, the good, and the true, and you will bring these into your experience proportionably to their occupancy of your thoughts.” - Mary Baker Eddy, Science and Health, p. 261:4. So don’t wait. Enjoy winter! It’s good for your health.
