Finding Your Future:

4 Important Things to Remember When Migrating to Australia

The decision to move to Australia is a big one and shouldn’t be taken lightly.

However, around 190,000 people make it every year. The vast majority go on to lead very successful lives in their new home. This is because there’s an awful lot of opportunities to be grabbed and enjoyed in Australia.

It’s a place where the sun shines, the beaches entice, and the wildlife is incredible.

The locals are exuberant and, if it’s adventure you’re looking for, there’s no better place on earth. As with any country, migrants are invited to apply for residency in Australia, as long as they meet a specific set of eligibility criteria.

Wherever in the world, you’re coming from, if you’re destined for Australia, there are some things that you should know first. Keep reading to find out more.

Help Is Available

The legal processes involved in applying for residency can be very complex.

This is why most migrants hire the services of a migration consultant. It gives them unrestricted access to a team of qualified legal experts, with a great deal of experience handling this type of application. Fortunately, searching for a trusted migration agent in Melbourne is fairly straightforward.

They will guide you through the entire application journey, from the day you receive the paperwork to the day you get notice of a final decision. As even a small administrative error can end up delaying or derailing an application, you are strongly advised to have a consultant by your side.

Australia Is Expensive

Lots of people make the big move to Australia without ever having visited first.

This isn’t all that unusual, but it does mean that they end up diving into an unfamiliar culture. One thing which can be surprising is the cost of living. Unfortunately, it is significantly higher in Australia than in many parts of Europe or America.

On the other hand, wages tend to be high enough to balance this out, so it isn’t as if prices are sky high and people struggle to afford things. Still, it can be a shock to migrate and see the cost of drinking in bars, driving, clothes shopping, and other activities. It is likely that you’ll be asked to provide evidence that you can support yourself as part of your application.

You Can Start Working Immediately

In most cases (usually, unless otherwise stated), a new arrival can start working even if they haven’t received a tax file number. The requirement is that you must apply for one as soon as possible. It can take up to three weeks, but you’re allowed to find a job and begin earning an income in the meantime.

Many migration consultants will work through this part of the process with you.

On the other hand, you do have the option to wait if you’d rather tackle it alone. The beauty of a comprehensive migration service is that, by the time you end up in your new home, there’s very little left to organise. You are ready to become a welcome member of the country.

Consider Jobs Early

The average time it takes a migrant to find a job in Australia is between one and two months, but it is often longer. For this reason, migration consultants advise finding and applying for jobs before you move. They can guide you through this process and put you in touch with a range of potential employers.

That way, you really are able to start earning immediately.

__________

It makes a move so much easier and takes most of the pressure out of starting again, in a new environment. Don’t forget that your migration consultant can also sort out suitable accommodation if you need help finding a place to stay. There is very little that they cannot support you with.
