‘Reading’ by Berthe Morisot in the Cleveland Museum of Art

Looking for some holiday reading?

Here is a selection of real books to choose from available at bookstores and, in some cases, also with Amazon or iTunes. Most are hot off the presses this month, while one is considered one of the great works of literature.

Next week we'll look at some children's books to see through the rest of the holidays.

Seduction

Melbourne-based Kate Forster’s latest novel has lights, camera, seduction and the glamour of Sydney and LA. If you’re on a long flight, or just spending hours lazing by the beach and don’t want to think about much, this could be just what you need.

Backfire

If you’re after action of another kind, then check out Catherine Coulter’s latest FBI thriller. A San Franciso judge is presiding over the trial of two accused murderers when the proceedings take an unexpected twist. It will keep you wanting to turn the next page.

The Husband List

A young woman’s search for true love. Ahhhh. Girl would like to be with brother and friend sailing the seven seas, climbing high mountains, buying and building businesses etc, but mum has a different idea about a man with a title. Will true love win? You know the answer, but it’s worth a read anyway – by Janet Evanovich and Dorien Kelly.

One Last Thing Before I Go

A great read if you want to laugh out loud and maybe even shed a little tear. It’s about a 44 year old divorced faded musician with a fatal heart condition and a university-bound daughter who falls pregnant. Charmingly written, great observations, lovely style.

Les Miserables

Long before it was a stage musical and a film, it was one of the literary masterpieces of the 19th Century written by French man, Victor Hugo, in 1862. It is an epic tale of justice and injustice, love, faith, redemption and also gives an account of the politics and contemporary Parisian life. In its day, the critics panned it and the public loved it.

And if you’re not into novels, try these two.

Your Best Body

Need motivation? Michelle Bridges takes you through the psychology of weight loss, details the food you should be eating to be as healthy as possible and gives exercises that will burn fat, tone you up and make you feel more energetic. But first, you have to put down the book and get out of the chair.

Free Yourself from Debt

Paul Clitheroe’s latest self-help manual on how to get out of debt and manage your financial affairs better.

Let us know if you have any suggestions!
