How should you indicate at a roundabout? When should you use your high beams? Are you allowed to use your mobile phone when at a red light?

If you’re not confident about how to answer these questions and you’re a parent of a learner driver, then a free half-day ‘Drive Aware’ training course at the Sydney Motorsport Park Driving Academy is for you.

NSW parents with a learner driver child can brush up on their own driving skills and knowledge at the course run by The Formula Company.

“Parents play an important role in the driving behaviour of young people in terms of attitudes, values and technique,” says Tony Palmer, Managing Director of The Formula Company.

“The bad habits they have picked up over the past 10 years will influence and impact the learner’s own driving behaviours. We want to stop this from happening and ensure learner drivers are equipped to be safe and responsible drivers on the road.”

“The first step is having parents recognise their own bad habits – a makeup touch up while driving, merging without checking mirrors, or that quick text message may all seem like a minor faux pas; but these regular bad behaviours affect focus, concentration and periphery vision and are being ingrained in our kids,” said Palmer

‘Drive Aware’ has been developed by The Formula Company with the support of Volvo and is based on current local and international driver safety research. The course covers driver attitude, decision- making and risk management as well as safe driving skills and techniques.

The course is held at Sydney Motorsport Park.
