It's not confirmed (at time of publishing this article) but international and local media outlets have reported today that Hollywood superstar couple, Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie, tied the knot over the festive season break at The Sanctuary on Parrot Cay, part of the Turks and Caicos Islands. Depending on which news outlet you read, ‘Brangelina’ either married on Christmas Day or New Year’s Day.

Whether true or not, it’s a good reason to look at the island paradise that makes up Turks and Caicos Islands, as well as The Sanctuary which is described as somewhere to “Experience gentle cosseting in a blissful wilderness – where someone, somewhere is ironing out the creases.” Precisely what you need when you have six kids!

The Turks and Caicos Islands consist of 40 different islands and cays, of which only eight are inhabited. They are located approximately 900 kilometres southeast of Miami, Florida, just to the east of Cuba. While they are considered part of the ‘Caribbean’, the Turks and Caicos are located in the Atlantic Ocean and not the Caribbean Sea.

The population is around 30,000 full time residents with up to 250,000 visitors each year attracted by the all-year-round great weather, secluded beaches, private and luxury lifestyle and diverse water activities. The two most popular islands are Grand Turk and Providenciales, while Parrot Cay and Pine Cay are privately owned and home to the most exclusive resorts.

The Sanctuary on Parrot Cay is owned by fashion designer, Donna Karan, and is a collection of three secluded villas, three open-air pavilions and four swimming pools, which was built by her as a "cocoon of serenity" for her family following the death of her husband in 2001.
