An important international day celebrates its 21st anniversary, the Open Air Cinemas get underway in Adelaide and Melbourne and it's time to buy tickets for a delightful children's stage show at the Sydney Opera House.

1.  Tuesday: International day of People with Disablity

It’s been 21 years since the first IDPwD – a day dedicated to emphasising the rights and the ability of people living with disability. From its beginning, it has been an opportunity to celebrate to contributions that people with disability make every day to their communities.

There’s even more to celebrate this year with the introduction of the National Disability Insurance Scheme by the previous government – a seminal initiative which has bipartisan support.

The theme to this year’s IDPwD is Break barriers and open doors: realise an inclusive society for all!

A centrepiece of the day is the National Disability Awards with the 2013 winners named by Assistant Minister for Social Services, Mitch Fifield, last week.

As part of IDPwD celebrations, the Disability Sport & Recreation Festival will be held at Federation Square in Melbourne on Tuesday.

The interactive and unique public event promotes and celebrates leading a physically active lifestyle through participation in inclusive sport and recreation. The festival includes community sport and recreation exhibition, a wheelchair Basketball challenge, come and try activities and the Victorian disability sport and recreation awards. 2.  Hello Summer!

It’s Adelaide’s and Melbourne’s turn to enjoy Open Air Cinema, which got underway yesterday until 22nd December.

There’s three weeks of bumper entertainment at Glenelg Beach in Adelaide and at South Beach Reserve, St Kilda, in Melbourne.

The program includes cult classics, new releases, award-winning features and premieres. It’s first class digital cinema on a huge outdoor screen in an alfresco, summer setting. But you don’t have to lie around in the sand. There are deck chairs, bean bags and blankets included as part of the ticket packages as well as some wet-weather options – and, best of all, a Ben & Jerry ice cream (event sponsors) with every ticket! What could be better?

The program includes films at every rating – including G.

Some shows are already sold out and others are selling fast. Find out more here:

3.  We’re going on a bear hunt!

It doesn’t start until next week, but now’s the time to buy tickets to on a bear hunt at the Sydney Opera House!

Straight from London’s West End, We’re going on a bear hunt, is about a family of intrepid adventurers on a quest to find a bear. It’s fun, it’s musical and involves songs, rhymes, puppetry, paints and mud. Plus a bear!

It’s based on the much-loved book by Michael Rosen and comes to life on stage in a funny, exuberant and loving way.

The show runs from 11th – 29th December (other than Monday’s and Christmas Day) with tickets ranging from $30-$54.
