Capturing the moment:

Some of the most treasured items a parent can possess are pictures of their kids.

To help capture those special moments, Caroline Williams shares her top five tips for taking a great photo of your kids:

1. Be prepared. Getting young children to stay still can be challenging. Youʼll get the best results when your kids are comfortable, fed and relaxed. Before you start snapping away, make sure your cameraʼs battery is charged up and you are using a memory card that has plenty of free space available for those magic moments. Having a toy on hand might also help to grab attention.

2.Use the highest resolution setting on your camera. We recommend you use the highest resolution setting your camera offers, as that way youʼll make sure your photos always look their best. While the photos may take up morespace on your camera until you download them it would be a shame not to be able to use a great photo because it is too small in resolution to be used on a large canvas or apron.

3. Keep it plain and close. Find a neutral background if you want your kids to be the centre of attention in the photo. A busy, cluttered rug or background easily distracts. Using a piece of fabric as a backdrop can help. Zoom in or get down/close enough especially if you are using the cameraʼs flash.

4. Pick your light. Morning or afternoon light is best if you are taking photos outdoors. The light will be softer and it can catch natural highlights in hair, skin tones and clothing. If you are shooting inside then try to use natural sunlight shining through a window rather than non-natural light sources such as lamps and fluorescent lighting.

5. Take lots of shots. Again don't worry about storage on your camera – keep snapping and you are sure to take a memorable shot that you will be proud to share with family and friends!
