Ever find yourself bumping into people while walking on the road because you are head down, furiously checking emails on your phone? Guilty of scrolling through your Instagram feed while watching a movie with your kids? Perhaps you fall asleep with Netflix on in the background?

Technology brings a lot of flexibility and efficiency into our lives however, spending too much time online or having a severe attachment to ‘screens’ can do more harm than good to our wellbeing and relationships. For mums who are feeling exhausted from technology, it may be time for a digital detox.

Here are 4 holiday ideas for mums who want to switch off and tap into some serenity.

1.     Escape to Lord Howe Island
Less than two hours’ flight from Sydney, Lord Howe Island is a World Heritage-listed paradise and mecca for snorkeling, hiking, swimming and sun bathing. The waters hold some of the most diverse tropical fish you will ever witness so far south of the equator. With only 400 people allowed on the island at a time, forget your iPhone because there is limited WIFI and reception available on this tropical paradise. You will truly enjoy feeling disconnected here amongst the biodiversity, clear water and salty air. Bring your other half with you to spend some quality time together while enjoying the heavenly view.

2.     Try Glamping
Camping is the new safari, however done with a little more class than blow up mattresses and baked potatoes. If you are keen to escape to the outdoors to immerse yourself in nature but still want to enjoy some level of comfort that usually comes with a hotel stay, then glamping is for you. Think open-air luxurious tents, decks, comfortable beds and bathroom facilities perched near natural surrounds or near waterfront locations. Even though it’s luxe camping, phones still do not belong in the wilderness. Instead, take in the fresh air and tap into the sounds of silence or nature’s symphony. Take the opportunity to read the pile of books you’ve been waiting to get through or go for a bushwalk.

3.     Take A Trip to Tasmania
A highly underrated holiday destination, Tasmania is neither far away nor expensive with so much beauty to be explored. Travel to the east coast of Tasmania where you will find Freycinet National Park, some of the most pristine environments of the world. A particular attraction is Wineglass Bay, boasting white sandy beaches, deep blue water and incredible wildlife. Tasmania is also a fantastic location for wine, particularly cold climate pinots. Leave the phone at home and bring the family with you for this one. With so much fresh air and natural magnificence, the memory will be imprinted without needing to take a gazillion photos to upload to Facebook and Instagram.

4.     Relax with A Yoga Retreat
It’s easier to surrender when someone else is calling the shots. Booking yourself into a yoga retreat is a great way to make yourself accountable to your digital detox, where you have no choice but to hand your devices in upon entering the retreat. This is taking detachment to a whole new level where the objective of the retreat is to truly connect to self and refrain from being so digitally switched on. A yoga retreat isn’t only cleansing for the mind and body but is also an important time for reflection. Perhaps by the time you leave the retreat you may realise that more time could be spent on yourself rather than your devices.

If the buzz of an iPhone notification is starting to cause you stress and anxiety, it’s time to switch off and take a break. Escape to one of the above destinations and experience a much-needed digital detox. A getaway doesn’t need to be exxy either. Research online for holiday packages and travel deals – you may just find yourself a nifty bargain!
