When it's the birthday of a loved one, dear relative or good friend, the pressure to make a cake that really stands out and makes them feel loved can be immense. There's no need to worry, however, as this guide has been created to outline all the different ways you can make this birthday cake stand out. Read on for five key tips for the most unique birthday cake ever.

Personalised Birthday Cake Toppers

A great cake is as much about presentation as it is about the taste. That's why it's essential to get some personalised birthday cake toppers that really show how you have gone the extra mile for your loved one or friend when it comes to their birthday. Additionally, an attractive looking cake can affect how people taste it! With a personalised message you can really stamp your own personality on the cake as well as writing something that reflects the character of the person you are making the cake for.

Use Unusual Flavours

Chocolate cakes and strawberry cakes can be very tasty, but they don't quite signal that you went to truly great lengths to create a special cake. They also might not be so surprising when being consumed. That's why it might be a cool idea to use a really unusual flavour that makes your cake really stand out. Unusual flavours that can be interesting include mint chocolate, champagne, hazelnuts or pistachios, whisky, pink champagne, key lime, coconut and even coca-cola. Try and experiment with the flavours in life that you really enjoy and then see how they could be incorporated into a cake.

Frosting with Something Particularly Tasty

Just as important as the taste within the cake is the taste on top. This is where you can be really experimental with the frosting. Try and think about how you could make an unusual combination with the main flavour for something really different. This is definitely a chance for your cake to be really different from convention.

Trick Candles

For an extra birthday surprise, why not consider investing in candles that relight themselves. While they are more geared towards children, there's no reason why you can't buy them for an adult and regale as they suddenly light up again after they have been blown off. Make sure to have lots of candles, too — if possible try and have as many candles as their age!

Create Different Layers

If you have the time to do so, layer the cake with a lot of different tiers in order to maximise the variety of flavours on offer. By doing so, your recipient will be amazed by the different types of food on offer. While this will undoubtedly take you a lot of time to prepare, the rewards of doing so will be a happy recipient. Just make sure that the different flavours truly complement each other, as otherwise the cake may actually achieve the opposite effect of what you initially intended.
