Whether you're throwing a birthday party, an anniversary dinner, a graduation party or any other get-together, the cake is always the centerpiece of every celebration. Getting a custom-made cake adds a special touch to your party. But if you're running behind, you might be tempted to skip the custom cake and pick up a pre-made one from the store instead. Is it worth saving time to buy a pre-made cake, or should you stick with the traditional custom cake that was made specifically for you?

Advantages and Disadvantages of a Pre-Made Cake

The most obvious advantage of a pre-made cake is that it allows you to save time. You don't have to call ahead to place your order and drive to the store a few days later to pick it up. You can simply stop by the store any time, even ten minutes before the party begins, and grab a pre-made cake right off the shelf. Most bakeries have a wide selection of cakes ready to go, so you should be able to find the right treat for your celebration.

However, one of the disadvantages of pre-made cakes is that you have to take what's there. And if they don't have that chocolate cake that you really wanted to serve, you're out of luck. Plus, most bakeries offer the widest selection of cakes in the morning. If you go later in the day, you'll find that several cakes and pastries have already sold out.

Advantages and Disadvantages of a Custom-Made Cake

The ultimate advantage of buying a custom-made cake is that you can buy anything you want. You don't have to run to the store and pray that they have your favorite cake in stock. Instead, you can choose a cake online and have it made especially for you, right to your exact specifications. Simply place your order, wait a few days and pick it up when you get a call from the bakery.

Buying a custom-made cake is also a great option for people who have allergies or dietary restrictions. The bakery might be able to substitute certain ingredients to make the delicious cake of your dreams that won't provoke an allergic reaction. You might also be able to order special customization options like text and decorations on the top. Plus, some bakeries will even deliver the cake right to your location. If you're interested, you can get cakes delivered in Sydney from CBD Cakes.

However, one disadvantage of buying a custom-made cake is that you'll have to plan ahead. You can't show up thirty minutes before the event starts and demand that they make a custom cake for you--if you try that, you'll probably get thrown out of the store. And if the event gets cancelled and it's too late to cancel the cake, you'll have an expensive cake on your hands. (Still, your friends and family members probably won't complain.)

Additionally, custom-made cakes tend to be a little more expensive than pre-made cakes. But if you're looking for something special, the cost is usually worth it. Pre-made or custom-made: whatever you choose, you and your partygoers are in for a treat.
