Australians have spent most of the last year at home finding out what they really need in their space, making Easter long weekend a perfect time for much needed renovations. Here, Trojan experts share some quick and easy DIY projects for a more functional and fashionable house.

1. Revamp your kitchen with new cupboard door handles (30 minutes)

Tools and supplies needed: Trojan Screwdriver, safety glasses, Trojan 200mm Combination Plier, snap screws and new handles

Give your kitchen a new look by simply replacing cupboard door handles. Remove handles with a Trojan Screwdriver (RRP $3.98-$5.98). Snap screws help mount cabinet handles with a long screw that has notches at different lengths which can be snapped off for the required length to suit different door thicknesses. Using a Trojan 200m Combination Plier (RRP $15.95), cut the snap screws down to the required size. When attaching the new handles, fix the snap screw thread loosely into the handle first, starting with the top screw. Align the bottom screw and tighten with a Trojan Screwdriver.

2. Reupholster your couch (2-3 hours)

Tools and supplies needed: Smartphone, Trojan 200mm Combination Plier, new fabric, Trojan 3 in 1 Staple Gun and staples and scissors

Reupholstering a couch is an exciting way to give it a makeover while saving money. Couches have a lightweight layer of fabric (known as a dust cover) stapled to the underside of the couch. Use the Trojan 200mm Combination Plier (RRP $15.95) to remove the staples from the fabric. Once the dust cover is removed, take away the layers of upholstery fabric stapled to the couch’s frame and set aside. Take photos so you know the order in which the pieces were removed, where they fit and how the fabric was attached. Cut and attach new upholstery fabric in the reverse order that you removed the fabric using the old fabric as a stencil and use a Trojan 3 in 1 Staple Gun (RRP $19.98) to staple it back to the frame. Then re-staple the dust cover back to the bottom of the couch.

3. Transform your wall with DIY wallpaper (3-5 hours)

Tools and supplies needed: Measuring tape, contact paper, pencil, template/design, Trojan Medium Paint Mixer, paint, paintbrush, razor blade and ruler

DIY wallpaper is a great way to create a space that is completely unique. Contact paper holds up well on the wall and can be removed without leaving a trace behind, making it the ideal solution for renters or those who like to regularly change wall scenery. Use a measuring tape to determine how much contact paper you require. Most options come with a grid on the back as a size guide. Design your own pattern or use a simple online template and trace it onto the contact paper with a pencil. Use the Trojan Medium Paint Mixer (RRP $8.00) to mix paint thoroughly to improve the colour and consistency of the finish. Paint your design and let each panel dry for approximately 3-4 hours. Cut the contact paper carefully with a razor blade, slowly remove the backing and place onto the wall, starting from the top. Smooth out all the bubbles with a ruler and adjust as necessary.

4. Relax at home (as long as you like!)

Tools and supplies needed: Couch, home-cooked meal and loved ones.

Once you’ve completed the DIY renovations for the weekend, the only project left to do this Easter is to relax. While you’re at it, make yourself a delicious home-cooked meal and get your friends and family round to admire your handywork!
