The high-performance finish is available in two tones – Black Marble and White Marble, allowing you to create different effects on furniture and accessories inside and outside your home. Simply spray onto wood, metal or plastic surfaces painted in Dulux Duramax Gloss colours in a similar way that you’d use silly string, and watch the stunning marble veining appear right before your eyes. The high-performance finish is fast-drying, with painted pieces touch dry in just 30 minutes, and it’s easy enough for even beginners to use.
Here’s how to transform a mundane tray into a sophisticated, accent piece using Dulux Duramax Marble Effect.
Application tools:
• Dulux Duramax Marble Effect – Black
• Dulux Duramax Gloss – Endless Dusk
• Dulux Duramax Gloss – Clear Coat
• Good quality painter’s tape
• Damp cloth
• Drop sheet or newspaper
• Lazy Susan
• Safety glasses or goggles
Step 1 - Surface Preparation
• Choose a well-ventilated area.
• Place a drop sheet or newspaper on your work surface to protect it from overspray.
• Put on safety glasses.
• Use painter’s tape to mask off any parts of the light fitting that you don’t want painted.
• Wipe down surface with a cloth, making sure it is clean and dry, and free from grease, rust and dirt.
• Some lacquered timber finishes will need to be primed with one coat of Dulux Duramax Undercoat. If you are unsure, it’s best to prime surface to eliminate any adhesion issues.
Step 2 - Application
• Place tray on top of the paint cap so you can access the base. Put the cap and tray on a Lazy Susan so you can spray all sides without touching your paintwork.
• Shake can for at least 3 minutes before and during use for ease of application. Spray the surfaces with two base coats of Dulux Duramax Gloss Endless Dusk. Hold can upright 15 to 25cm from the surface. Spray with smooth and light, even strokes parallel to the surface. Allow 2 minutes’ drying time between coats.
• Once dry, apply one coat of Dulux Duramax Marble Effect Black. For best results, apply with quick hand movements from multiple directions and 25cm or more from the tray.
• Once dry, remove tape and spray entire tray with Dulux Duramax Gloss Clear Coat. This delivers an essential protective surface to your tray.
• Tray is touch dry in 30 minutes and paint is fully cured in 24 hours.
• Tips: Dulux Duramax Marble Effect is applied similar to silly string. When spraying, start off the edge of the tray so that the spray is even when it hits the surface. Practice first on a piece of cardboard. Shake can for at least three minutes before use and regularly during use.
Step 3 - Clean Up
• Clean up overspray while it is still wet with mineral turps.
• Spray unwanted paint onto newspaper and allow to dry. Check with your local council about responsible paint disposal.
