While so many people are busy celebrating the cool crisp weather of Autumn, unfortunately that means Autumn’s evil sibling is just around the corner – the one that goes by the name “winter”. If you’re the type that dreads the cold, dark, damp days then you’re going to want to take a look at these tips that will help to make your home more comfortable this winter. We all know winter can feel like the longest season of all, so why not make it as relaxing and enjoyable as possible.

Make Sure the Heating is Working Well

If you haven’t had to use the heat in your home yet, it’s only a matter of time now. With that said the first cold day of the season is never a good time to find out your boiler or radiator isn’t working properly. Now is the time to check out your heating system, do a maintenance check, repairs, or possibly a full replacement of your radiators or boiler (depending on what your home has).

Should your home have radiators, you may find yourself pleasantly surprised at the designs they have available nowadays. They tend to look more like décor pieces than a radiator. There are even flat radiators which act as a fabulous space saving design. They lay flat against the wall taking up next to no space, and can easily be integrated with the other décor in the room.

Create a Reading Nook

Chances are you’ll be spending a lot more time indoors once winter officially arrives, so why not prepare by creating a little reading nook or designated reading space in your home. It doesn’t have to be large, as long as there is a comfy chair for relaxing in, a reading light, a place to store your books, and a small little table for your warm tea or hot chocolate to rest on. There’s a good chance this will become your favourite spot in the house.

Stock Up on Throws

As you’re browsing through the markets and stores over the next few weeks, keep an eye out for comfy warm throws. These can be tossed on sofas, chairs, and beds and will not only add warmth but will help
to create an inviting atmosphere.

Update Your Lighting

Winter is known for its long dark nights that start much earlier than in the summer months. With that said it may be wise to change up your lighting. If you're the type that doesn't like low-lighting, you may want to invest in more light fixtures and lamps or stronger bulbs. Then again if you like that low light type of atmosphere, candles can be a beautiful option for the winter months. To make sure it stays safe in your home, be sure to pick candle holders that enclose the candles.

Beat the Winter Blues

Each of these tips will help to make your home as comfortable as possible during the winter months, and hopefully chase away those winter blues.
