If you've ever wanted to know where the meat in your Big Mac came from, you can now find out.

Using GPS and QR technology, McDonald's Australia has developed a TrackMyMacca's smart phone App which allows you to track individual ingredients on all its products. It also allows you to click on individual ingredients and see the story of that ingredient and the real life farmer behind every piece of beef, fish, onion, potato, pickle and so forth.

McDonald's hopes it will help dispel negative rumours about where its food comes from and its food processing techniques.

“We know people have a lot of questions about our food and we are happy to be honest about where it comes from,” a McDonald’s spokesperson said.

“People seem to be really impressed with the new app so far and we are really proud to share that 90% of our food is sourced here in Australia,” the McDonald’s spokesperson added.

The new TrackMyMacca’s app was launched launched last week. It will run until the end of June this year, and may be extended if it's popular with the public.
