Art Gallery of South Australia

Founded in 1881 the Art Gallery of South Australia houses one of South Australia’s greatest art collections. Over 780,000 visitors flock to the gallery every year to witness the extensive range of collections that sit in one of Adelaide’s most beautiful buildings. Pieces from all over the world, including Europe, North America and Asia, are carefully presented for visitors to be inspired by. National Railway Museum

Take a journey through time to visit the history of rail at the National Rail Museum in Port Adelaide. Australia’s largest railway museum has over 100 exhibits on display primarily from the commonwealth and South Australia and will leave you amazed. This interactive museum is ideal for families with Semaphore Train rides taking place approximately every 30 minutes along the Semaphore coastline to Port Malcolm. As well as the permanent exhibitions that inspire visitors there are seasonal events that take place such as family fun fairs, driver’s experiences, steampunk festivals and ghost tours to keep visitors coming back for more.

Gagprojects

Gagprojects was previously known as the Greenaway Art Gallery and is a private art gallery in Adelaide that showcases and supports local and international artists. It was founded by Paul Greenaway in 1991 and is now situated in a large converted warehouse in Kent Town. The gallery currently houses 26 artist’s collections with a focus on challenging concepts in a variety of mediums, a must visit for art enthusiasts.

South Australia Museum

The South Australian Museum boasts five floors of natural history for visitors to discover that was founded in 1847. With the aim to increase knowledge and understanding of natural and cultural heritage the stunning exhibitions keep visitors coming back for more. Get a deeper insight into information presented by the museum by taking a free guided tour led by a volunteer. They’ll steer you through the exciting exhibits and answer any questions you may have. There’s also a media centre that pulls in crowds of people who like to hear the museum come to life with images and expert comment on scientific and cultural research, topical subjects as well as current museum exhibits.

Nexus Arts Centre

Nexus Arts strives to bring together culturally diverse artists with the aim to move from a white Australia towards a multicultural policy of immigration. Over the last 30 years Nexus Arts has developed programmes to bring together artists and produce art that that celebrates diversity. The Lion Arts Centre houses exhibitions, artist talks, music performances and workshops- talking a multidisciplinary approach to art which can be appreciated by all.
