5 tips to get the best family photo shoot:

Create your very own family album

One of the best things about being a parent is that you can create your very own family album. Family photos are the best way to remember things we may forget along the way, snapshots of moments we’ll cherish in the future.

Family photos are also a chance of exercising the best kind of home deco one can have, which is filling our personal spaces–from offices to bedrooms and wallets -with pictures of the ones we really care about.

However, taking outstanding family photos–the ones that really capture moments, emotions and looks–is not as easy as instagraming your favorite burger at thelocal restaurant. And that’s why we compiled this tip list: because family photos are worth it.

1. Weather is king. All kinds of photography rely on the use of light, and when it comes to family photos, light is always a must. Abundant, warm spring / summer light is the best. Why? Because it brings colors to life and makes the best photos. Also, spring and summer tends to make us happier than cloudy winters–and happiness stands out when it’s there.

2. Location. Closely related to weather: if the day’s bad, a plan B usually means another location to make the magic happen. Professional studios have
lights thatdo the job amazingly well when natural light isn’t there for the moment.

3. A little bit of strategy can’t hurt. Kids are quite unpredictable, and that’s fine; but take into account that a family photo that is part of your agenda might not bepart of your child’s agenda. Always keep an ace under the sleeve if you think you’ll might encounter signs of resistance; an ice-cream promise usually works.

4. Pros are pros for a reason. Or to be precise, for a number of reasons. They know their trade, don’t waste your time and usually deliver better results than the ones we expect from ourselves. The good part is that professionals are quite affordable–yes, photos were expensive in the 19th century, but things have
changed for the best.

5. Clothing and grooming. There’s one golden rule here: avoid off tones and colors and you’ll be alright. Once you abide by this law, possibilities are endless, depending on what you agree with the rest of the family members. Matching sweaters, funny costumes? Go loco!
