Considering the garage door is often the most regularly used large electrical shutter in the house, it’s health and wellbeing should be of a very high priority. Even the slightest malfunction with opening or closing the door could turn out to be disastrous for the homeowner. If you are the owner of a garage door opener that have had a life span of at least 15-20 years, please read on to find out if any of the given criteria is applicable to your garage door opener and if required visit websites, like to get an idea of the newer, easier to operate models available in the market today.

Safety reversal feature

One of the best electrical feature in the garage door opener market is the safety reversal mechanism. The benefits of this feature cannot be over-emphasised. It comes with sensors placed on either side of the garage shutter that can pick out any object or person underneath it. When it senses any obstacle, the sensors cause it to immediately stop and reverse its motion. This ensures zero chance of any accidents that could occur while closing a shutter door. If your garage opener does not have this feature or there is a malfunction with the existing one, it is time to get a new one.

Control Noise

If you are the owner of a grating, noisy garage opener, it is necessary to look for newer models that operate noiselessly. It is wise to keep a close ear to this noise because the louder the noise gets, the sooner will it cease to function. Older models were built with thick chains that grated and squeaked throughout its lifetime. The ones in the market now use belt drive opener which are amazingly quiet. Perhaps it is wise to stop being an embarrassment in the neighbourhood and go modern.

Security Codes

Older models were handicapped with fixed codes - a feature that enabled housebreakers to steal these codes using radio frequency identifier gadgets, and rob homes with impunity. This feature has now been replaced with rolling codes that ensure that the code changes every time the garage shutter opens.

Keyless entry

A very good reason to upgrade to a new garage door opener would be the availability of a keypad outside the garage door which would enable you to gain entry without a remote or a key. The only requirement would be to enter a simple code into the keypad. Keypads with fingerprint touch is also available these days.

Battery backup

Nobody likes to have their car stuck in the garage, but a power outage could do just that. If you own an older opener, you could operate the door manually with a bit of effort. But Garage door openers come fitted with battery backup systems these days, that start automatically when power is lost – a big advantage over the old ones.

When compared to older models, newer garage door openers are functionally far superior. Perhaps it is time for an upgrade.
