Homeschooling is becoming increasingly popular, with many parents now choosing to educate their children from home instead of enrolling them within the formal setting of public or private schools. While homeschooling can have a number of potential disadvantages, many people feel that the many benefits outweigh these. If you are considering educating your child at home, then here are five key benefits of homeschooling.

1. Tailor education to your child’s needs

Homeschooling allows parents to tailor their child’s education to maximise learning ability, improve areas of weakness, and focus on particular areas of interest or strength. Parents can adopt a teaching style that is most appropriate to their child, thus improving the effectiveness of teaching sessions. Many studies have also found that students in smaller classes perform far better when compared to students in larger classes. Homeschooling provides children with a fantastic teacher-to-student ratio; this has been shown to increase learning ability and help students remain focused and engaged with their learning.

2. Make education fun

Homeschooling allows parents to make education fun and adopt learning sessions to suit their child’s particular interests and hobbies. Doing so helps children become far more engaged and motivated in their learning. Including plenty of educational trips in the homeschool schedule will help keep learning interesting. Parents can even arrange for their children to go on educational tours to Spain and other countries with companies like Travelbound Education. This will give their child the opportunity to visit a new country, broaden their cultural understanding, and meet other students.

3. Build strong family bonds

Homeschooling helps strengthen parents bonds with their children and create closer family relationships.  According to Teacher To Your Home - “Homeschooling can be very fulfilling for children and their families.” Many parents get a great sense of joy and satisfaction from spending lots of time with their children and seeing them grow and develop academically. Homeschooling also provides families with the opportunity to travel and enjoy time together without the restrictions that are imposed by traditional education systems. This means that homeschooling works well for military families, families who travel, and families dealing with illness.

4. Provide a safe learning environment

Many parents choose to homeschool as it protects their children from potentially harmful situations such as bullying, negative peer pressure and drugs. Homeschooling provides children with a safe learning environment where they don’t have to worry about being exposed to these distractions or influences that are often present in mainstream schools. Homeschooling can also be beneficial for children who have mental health conditions that would affect their ability to perform well in a traditional school setting. This may include conditions such as social anxiety, depression, or other learning difficulties.

5. Support network

Fortunately, there is a vast support network available for parents who choose to homeschool. Joining a local home education group is an excellent way to get advice and guidance, share ideas and learning materials, arrange group learning activities, and give your child the chance to socialise with other home-educated children.
