Despite the end of COVID lockdowns bringing well-earned relief and freedom for millions of Australians, the COVID baby boom has seen thousands of new and soon-to-be parents rush to prepare for the arrival of their little ones.  By January 2022, it’s predicted an extra 25, 000 babies will be delivered nationally.

Though many will agree that newborns are adorable, with parenthood comes a lot of far-from-cute responsibilities. Some of those new delightful routines are, cleaning loaded nappies, clearing snotty noses – new parents, welcome to parenthood!

Angela Kim, co-founder of Bubzi Co, an International baby nursery essentials brand, understands the struggles first time parents go through as she has experienced them firsthand.

“When we had our daughter, we tried to get as prepared as possible, but there were some things I had no idea about. If I can share any piece of advice, it would be ‘prepare to get your hands dirty,” says Angela.

Angela has shared 4 must haves to get your reality looking more like your expectation:

1. Suck boogers

When newborns are congested, they struggle to breathe through their nose as they are unable to blow their little noses. For this reason, parents need to clear the nose passage manually which means sucking out all the ‘boogers’. Fortunately, there are a number of products on the market for such a gross task. Parents swear by Bubzi Co’s number 1 snot sucker, the Baby Nasal Aspirator. The simple booger sucker design helps new parents feel like a pro in no time and only takes 30 seconds. After selling hundreds of thousands of Baby Nasal Aspirator’s on Amazon, Woolworths is now selling the product across over 300 of its stores nationally.

2. Change dirty nappies (10 a day)

Unfortunately, newborns poo and wee…a lot! Babies tend to ’let loose’ after each feed and parents are typically expected to change soiled nappies about 10 times a day. Be prepared for poo-namis on the regular. As babies feed every 2-3 hours in the beginning, that means 10 – 12 nappies in a 24-hour period. An airtight Ubbi nappy bin will lock in all those bad smells.

3. Avoid wee in your face

If expecting a boy, you can also expect to be urinated on at least once (a week). Due to boys’ anatomies, when parents change their nappies, they’re often greeted with a shower they weren’t expecting. To avoid being urinated on, you can try a Peepee Tepee. This genius invention prevents you from getting peed on during nappy changes. Simply place the soft cloth cone over his penis during diaper changes to avert a sprinkling.

4. Vomits and reflux

Babies feed all the time, but they are also known to constantly burp up their milk. This is completely normal but it’s not fun when you’re covered in their vomit all day. Made from microfibre and a terry towelling blend of layers, The Spewy is a practical, versatile hygienic product that absorbs up to 2 litres of liquid. Stopping vomit from leaking through due to its waterproof backing, The Spewy also comes with a waterproof bag to prevent vomit smell from lingering. Both bag and The Spewy can be placed in the wash.
