Angelina Jolie on the red carpet:

Angelina Jolie and Brad Pitt attracted more attention than usual at their weekend red carpet appearance.

Neither Angelina Jolie nor Brad Pitt are strangers to the attention paid to them at a red carpet appearance but the London premiere of World War Z was big, even for them.

It was Jolie’s first public appearance since her decision to go public with the news of her preventive double mastectomy – and she looked terrific.

Wearing a floor-length Yves Saint Laurent black gown with layers of draped fabric, she looked very elegant. The gown had a high neckline, was sleeveless with slim straps and a sheer panel across the midriff. Pitt was also dressed in black and had his long hair down.

‘Brangelina’ posed for photographers arm-in-arm and Jolie also posed alone, all the time with a radiant smile.

Jolie revealed last month that she had undergone the surgery because she knew she had an 87% risk of developing breast cancer, because she carries a gene, BRCA1, that increases the risk of breast and ovarian cancer. She said her decision was informed by her mother’s long fight and eventual death from breast cancer at 56.

Jolie said she felt great. “I feel wonderful and I’m very grateful for all the support. It meant a lot to me.” She praised Pitt for his “extraordinary” support and said he is “a wonderful man and a wonderful father.”

Interviewed on the red carpet, Pitt got teary when he talked of Jolie’s courage in going ahead with the surgery.

“The biggest fear as a father is keeping the family alive and safe and together and she did that for us,” Pitt said. “I’m just relieved that [breast cancer] is not gonna be the thing that takes her out.”

World War Z is an apocalyptic film that revolves around United Nations employee Gerry Lane (played by Pitt) who is in a race against time to stop a pandemic that is toppling armies and governments – and threatens the whole of humanity.

In other news, more than $1 million has been raised for Breast Cancer Network Australia in three weeks through their partnership with Bakers Delight. The proceeds of every pink bun sold at Bakers Delight stores in the past three weeks have been donated to BCNA.
