Fun for everyone, not just the kids.

Are you getting a little exhausted trying to plan family activities? It’s easy when you have little ones, because you can get away with going to the zoo or an aquarium on the weekend, and call it a day. Australia has plenty of locations for entertaining young kids. But what about when they get a bit older? And don’t you and your partner want to have a little fun as well? Well, there is one universal activity that can entertain the entire family - sports.

Australia takes sports pretty seriously, and there are plenty of cities that dedicate stadiums, fields and events to Cricket, Australian Football, Rugby and many other sports. There are hundreds of locations you could visit, but you would have to spend quite a while picking out the best places to take your family to. Forget doing the research, all the information about the top Australian sports cities is right here on this page!

A little about sports in Australia

The entire country lives and breathes sports. Good luck finding anyone as passionate as Australians when it comes to sports. Not only that, the variety of different sports is astonishing. You will find any type of activity for any type of preference. Cricket, Golf, Basketball, Soccer, Rugby…You think of it- they have it! And that is the very reason why Australia is a popular spot for tourists and families that are searching for exciting activities to engage in together. There’s nothing more exciting than picking a team to cheer for, gearing up with some merch and supporting a team with the people you love the most.

Best Aussie sports cities:

Melbourne
Most popular sports in the city:
-Australian rules football
-Cricket
-Basketball
-Soccer

Basketball: If you’re ready to spice up your family adventures with a little bit of dribble, Melbourne Arena holds huge basketball sporting events with up to 10,500 people! That is twice as much as any other basketball stadium in Melbourne. That is the heart of where the Melbourne United team holds their victories. The stadium is surrounded with coffee shops and adorable restaurants that you can visit before or after the game. This is a wonderful location to enjoy an exhilarating game and have a relaxing time exploring the area. Kill two birds with one stone, why not!

Football: Australia wouldn’t be what it is without AFL (Australian rules football). There are four major stadiums that hold large AFL events in Melbourne, hosting up to 100,000+ people per game! Once the games are over, the city becomes filled with cheering, props and exciting parades held by fans and teams. If you happen to travel to Melbourne, make sure to check out tickets to Australian football events at the following stadiums:

Melbourne Cricket Ground
ANZ Stadium
Optus Stadium
Marvel Stadium

Sydney

-Cricket
-Soccer
-Australian Football

There is no better destination for Rugby lovers than Sydney. Rugby league is the reason for Sydney’s frequent tourist visitations. There are 8 Rugby clubs located in Sydney, and that is out of 16 total, so you should know these guys take this sport pretty seriously. If you want one particular suggestion, we advise you to look at some available Rugby tickets at the Bankwest Stadium (Western Sydney Stadium). Not too far from there, you will find the Sydney city Center filled with wonderful retail locations as well as countless waterfront restaurants and shops.

Brisbane
Most popular sports in the city:
-Rugby
-Cricket
-Soccer
-Basketball
The Gabba stadium in Brisbane has got to be one of the most exciting Cricket locations, and not just in Australia, but in the whole world. This stadium in particular holds up to 42,000 people. This location happened to be the home to the Twenty20 cup back in 2006. The sun-soaked capital of Queensland is a great start to your time in Australia.

Adelaide
-Horse racing
-Motor sports
-Cricket
-Australian Football

Who doesn’t love horses? If you’re at all into horse racing or betting, Adelaide is the perfect place to go. With dozens of public horse racecourses, you and your family can enjoy and cheer for your favorite stallion. If you’re putting that on your bucket list, make sure to also scribble down “Morphettville Racecourse”. That is the main horse racing track in Australia. Adelaide is extremely rich when it comes to the history of horse racing, and you’d be surprised how seriously people take this sport!

And hey, horses aren’t for everyone. If you’re not too keen on participating in this sort of thing, Adelaide also holds many motor sports events. Adelaide International Raceway is the place to be if you’d like to attend some of the most exciting motor racing events. So pick between an electric horse and a real one, and have fun with the entire family!

Can’t travel yet?

Unfortunately, with the virus affecting the entire world, it’s not as easy to go out and enjoy sporting events like once before. You do have other options if your traveling is restricted or if you cannot find public events that you can attend daily.  We have a list of the best Aussie online casinos that you can watch live sports from, and even make bets on horse racing and other sporting events. Sure, this option may exclude the little ones, but it’s better than being stuck at home with no options at all. And if you’ve never played before, don’t worry, among the list you will find many Australian online casinos with no deposit bonuses. That way you can try it out without spending any money. And hey, you could even win some money to buy tickets for Aussie sport events when the time comes!
