Celebrate Easter:

Think of what Easter is about and celebrate it because it's good for your health says Beverly.

It's Easter! In many parts of Australia, that means crisp autumn mornings, the smell of oven-warmed hot cross buns, brightly wrapped chocolate eggs, a well-earned rest from work and time to visit a favourite camping spot.

While this is often what people think the holiday period is all about, there is a deeper reason to celebrate Easter, and it’s good for your health.

Last year at Easter-time, I met a normally happy friend in the local supermarket. She looked down-in-the-dumps. When I asked her why, she said, “Oh, nothing really. I just get so depressed at this time of year. It’s sad – a good man dying on a cross!”

I gave her a hug, and reminded her that the Easter story is not all doom-and-gloom. It does have a happy ending – one that has encouraged and inspired many people to go on and live a long and active life.

The word Easter is akin to the Latin word aurora, which means dawn. It’s a reminder of a new beginning – a starting afresh, a renewal in thinking. The dawn of each new day is cause for celebration – a looking forward, an anticipation of good things ahead. There is no death-induced end to the dawning of helpful, positive ideas or expectations of living a happy, health-filled life.

As the sun comes up every morning, so our thoughts and actions can be invigorated, refreshed, and uplifted on a daily basis. This can lead to a greater sense of happiness and wellbeing.

Here's how you can help get the most out of what Easter means.

  • Celebrate Easter’s powerful message of hope in the continuity of good health and a fulfilling life. Be encouraged, inspired, and optimistic each morning.
  • Liberate your thinking. Fill it with gladness, not sadness, all year round. Be grateful for the good things you have - such as loving people in your life.
  • Warm to this promise. “…the sun of righteousness will rise with healing in its rays. And you will go out and frolic like well-fed calves.” – that is, you will be joyful, energetic, full of health (The Bible, Malachi 4:2.).
  • Allow the rays of Truth’s sunlight to invigorate your thinking and raise you out of unhappiness and ill health. Rise to a higher, brighter, state of mind, and in so doing find your life improving.
  • Embrace the dawning light that crowned one remarkable man’s triumphant victory over cross and grave, and whose legacy of healing shows the way to a purpose-filled, healthy life.
