If you're a small business without a smartphone enabled website, help is at hand.

Research by Yellow Pages has found that less than 10 per cent of small businesses with existing websites have optimised their websites for viewing on a smaller, smartphone screen.

But with the use of smartphones growing rapidly, many small businesses are making it tough to be found easily.

"Australians using mobiles to search the internet has grown fivefold over the past two years. Globally, there will be more internet users on mobile devices than on traditional desktops by 2014," according to Adrian Perillo, Sensis Group Manager for SEM and Websites.

In response, Yellow Pages has launched a product that provides small businesses with a cost-effective, ready to publish website that is pre-optimised for mobile viewing. The design is faster to download and makes it easier for customers to find information about your business, such as contact details, maps, directions and a click-to-call 'phone number.

"Small businesses need to keep up with changing consumer preferences by ensuring they have an effective mobile presence - a design that looks great on a desktop won't always translate well on a mobile," Mr Perillo said.

"When consumers search for a business on a mobile, they want it to be fast and easy. Latest research shows that 61 per cent of mobile users surveyed said they'd quickly move onto another site if they didn't find what they were looking for straight away.

"In short, businesses with websites that aren't mobile optimised risk losing customers to competitors."

Yellow Pages new SiteSmart Mobile product is aimed at small businesses and is competitively priced.
