Is Kybella or Liposuction a Better Option for Treating My Double Chin?:

Nobody likes to look at photos of themselves only to discover they have a noticeable double chin in every shot.

While many people tend to associate double chins with being overweight, this isn’t the only way that they can form. Genetics, thyroid problems and age can all cause a double chin to form. Fortunately, there are treatment options available that will leave you with a more defined side profile.

If you’ve recently started looking into double chin treatments, you’ll know that there are two main treatment options: liposuction and Kybella. Both of these treatments are proven to effectively target fat under the chin but which option is right for you?

We take a closer look at these two procedures.

Kybella – What Is It?

Kybella is a non-invasive treatment that uses injections filled with a special blend of ingredients that are designed to break down the unwanted fat cells under the chin. This injectable treatment has become increasingly popular in recent years because of the safe and effective results it is capable of producing.

But is it a better option than liposuction? This is what you need to know.

Kybella vs. Liposuction: The Results

According to MIRA Clinic, both treatments offer effective results if you want to get rid of a double chin. If you decide to go with liposuction, you can expect to see an improvement within a week or two, with most patients needing to wait a year to experience the full results of their procedure. Injectable treatments will produce results after about 12 weeks. It all depends on how quickly you want to see results and whether or not you would prefer a once off treatment. Only one liposuction procedure is required, while you will need several Kybella sessions to produce your desired outcome.

Kybella vs. Liposuction: The Procedure

The next major difference is in how the treatments are carried out. Kybella is far less invasive and won’t require any incisions. Liposuction, on the other hand, does require small incisions to complete the procedure. The way that these two treatments are performed also makes the recovery slightly different.

Kybella patients can resume their usual activities directly after their treatment, with some mild redness and swelling being the only side effects. These side effects also tend to clear up within a few hours. Since liposuction requires incisions, you will need to take some time off work for the procedure and to recover afterwards. Neck liposuction is not a highly-invasive procedure but it is still surgery.

Kybella vs. Liposuction: The Cost

Initially, neck liposuction is going to seem more expensive because it is surgery and has a larger once-off cost. Kybella is more affordable if you are looking at it from a per-treatment basis but since several treatments will be required, the costs will be higher the more treatments you require.

To weigh up whether Kybella or liposuction will cost you less, you would need to speak to a professional surgeon about the severity of your double chin, which will dictate the number of treatments you might require.

Final Thoughts

Something else you should keep in mind is the fact that injectable treatments don’t leave the scars that surgery does, which is one of the reasons why Kybella has become the preferred option for many people.

However, if liposuction is necessary, the right surgeon will be able to minimise scarring as much as possible.

To decide between these two procedures, it’s best to speak to a professional who can perform a physical examination and review your medical history before helping you make a final call.
