It's been a big week for Tasmania!
Not only has Hobart been named in the Top 10 list of 'must visit' places by Lonely Planet, as we wrote about earlier in the week, but it's now been revealed that US President Barack Obama will soon have his own taste of Tamania.
The US Ambassador to Australia, Jeffrey Bleich, is so taken with Tasmania's award-winning single malt whisky that he picked up a few bottles as a gift for President Obama on a visit to Hobart yesterday.
Ambassador Bleich said the President enjoys whisky.
"I've already promised I'm going to bring back some Tasmanian whisky with me."
Tasmania is garnering a reputation as the 'Scotland of the South', with around eight distilleries making use of the island's ideal environment.
The Sullivans Cove brand recently won awards at the World Whisky Masters in London and this week was named the southern hemisphere's best in the respected Jim Murray's 2013 Whisky Bible.
Ambassador Bleich said he was currently enjoying the "vanilla-y, biscuity" taste of the Hellyers Road distillery's products.
"I think it's a very good thing that I'm in Canberra and can't live here in Hobart because I love Tasmanian whisky a little too much," he said.
The ambassador was visiting Hobart to speak about building the relationship between the US and Tasmania - but not just in whisky exports.
