If cooking is your passion, then you probably spend a lot of time in the kitchen. It is the place where all life happens. This place is a witness to all the important conversations of your life. So why shouldn’t you have a little art to brace it up. Kitchen art is not just about having fancy kitchen cabinets or hi-tech appliances plugged in. It’s about taking advantage of the empty space and creating a captivating display to match your home style. There are some unique ways you could do that. Here are our top five tips to bring art to your kitchen.

Decorate The Cabinets

We all know that colour affects our brain. The colour grey, for instance, helps you calm down and lightens your mood, while yellow and red are colours to keep the eye and mind excited. Colour the cabinets in your kitchen to add some colour to match your surrounding. You could also use a graphic pattern for a more vibrant display. If your cabinets high enough use them to store all your stuff to make your space free of clutter.

Get Some Hanging Wall Art

If you have a wall that is not occupied by kitchen cabinets, then that could be a great place to add some art. Hang a nice vintage oil painting . You will enjoy looking at it while you work in the kitchen. A kitchen wall that is filled with art will surely make a unique statement. A varied collection of unique prints and photographs could add to the beauty of your walls.

Make your wall the canvas for your art. Use decorative plates and dishes to add a different flavour. Bring your walls alive with hanging plants or wall mounted planters.

Come Up With Art That’s Food-Inspired

Since food is at the heart of the kitchen, a good idea to choose artwork that is inspired by food. Spice that up with a dose of humour and creativity like a picture of a kiwi dressed up for work or a piece of bread walking. It would be great conversation starter for your guests.

Just as you mix up the right ingredients to come up with awesome food, the right recipe for your kitchen wall would be the perfect blend of colour, texture and imagination.

Add Some Humour and Inspiration

Try some funny quotes or, if you prefer, some inspirational quotes and make sure you give it a foody touch. Something like “ Whip it then whip it good” makes perfect sense for your kitchen. You can also shop for some fancy decorative items and fair trade products where you will get a wide range of unique options.

Art That Complements Your Appliances and Tile Work

When you display art, it is important that it complements your kitchen appliances, flooring and the type of tiles you have in the best possible manner. For instance, if you have a blue refrigerator then try to add a sculpture that is blue so that it complements. Or even more, if you want you can top it with a peacock and a framed landscape that has complimenting colour scheme.

Never Place It in The Wrong Place

Make sure you never put artifacts just above the stove or near the coffee maker as the stream might just damage the art. Delicate art could possibly get damaged due to excessive heat or moisture and should be avoided near the heat source. Place it near the cabinets or on a wall that is far away.

Your kitchen is the heart of your home, so make sure it is decorated to suit your taste, not just your tastebuds.

This technique is very rarely used in most handmade painted kitchens designs, I bet you can’t think of one that you have seen in someone’s house.
