Expecting a baby is one of the most wonderful moments of your life and the beginning of a new era. However, expecting a baby also requires a ton of organization and preparation, from purchasing all the necessary equipment to designing the perfect nursery. This space needs to include all the things your baby needs and it should be peaceful, cozy and functional, so here’s how you too can design such a nursery.

Organize the furniture

Furnishing your nursery depends on its size, so be sure to measure it first. If you’re stuck with a tiny nursery, you’ll have to think outside the box and come with alternative solutions, but if that’s not the case, you can start purchasing furniture freely.

There are lots of things you’re going to need, but a crib, a changing station, and a dresser are the most important ones. When picking these pieces, don’t forget to pay attention to functionality and design, making sure your child’s nursery is both visually appealing and practical.

Focus on the feeding station

Feeding your newborn is the most important thing in the world, and it’s a process you’re going to repeat again and again. You can do this anywhere in your home, but having a designated space for this process is a better solution. It doesn’t have to be too spacious, and a corner of your nursery will do – especially because this makes the transition from feeding to sleeping easier and quicker.

What you need is a comfortable chair, a cabinet where you can place a few essential items, and a lamp that’s particularly helpful during the night. A rocking chair might prove to be the most practical because its gentle movements will calm your baby down and ease it into sleep.

Insist on natural materials

Since the nursery is the first space your baby occupies, it needs to be full of natural materials that won’t harm its health. This means insisting on proper wooden furniture at all times – from the crib to the storage area, and everything in between – and avoiding plastic and metal as much as possible. This doesn’t have to look like a big deal at first but will prove to be quite important in the long run.

Stick to this principle when decorating every inch of the nursery. Natural resources aren’t just healthier, but also more attractive, which is great. Finish the design with an amazing jute rug that comes in different sizes, colors, and patterns without compromising on the quality and the natural aspect of its materials, making it the right choice for your baby’s nursery.

Design the changing station

This is another vital aspect of every nursery – a spot where you can change your baby and make sure it’s dry and clean. Changing the baby takes some practice and it could be rather tricky if you’re doing it for the very first time, which is why having a proper changing station is so important.

A spacious changing table is the key towards changing your baby quickly and effortlessly, so get one of these as soon as you can. If possible, make sure it comes with some shelves as well, because these will help you store all your diapers, wipes, ointments and other essentials close by, making your job easier. Also, get a table that suits your own height, so that you don’t have to bend over in order to reach your baby – this will cause back pain, and that’s something new parents definitely need to avoid!

Create the parents’ zone

Yes, nurseries are made for babies, but that doesn’t mean parents can’t hang out there as well. Creating your own personal spot in one of the corners is the only way to take a break after changing your baby or putting it to sleep, and frequent brakes are essential for keeping your cool and surviving this intense period.

The parents’ zone can be organized around the feeding chair as this is where you’ll be spending most of your time, at least at first. This chair should be comfortable enough for you to take a quick nap, if that’s what you need, or spend some time waiting for your child to fall asleep.

Designing the perfect nursery isn’t the easiest thing in the world, but, if you know what you’re trying to achieve and want to give your child the best living conditions possible, it shouldn’t be too hard either. You need to do this on time, though, and prepare everything at least two months before a newborn arrives into your life.
