Australian families are being invited to become part of history by adding their stories to an on line Time Capsule hosted by Federation Square in Melbourne.
“We’re inviting people to tell their stories through words and photos; talk about their journeys, their achievements or talk about their hobbies, nominate a favourite country town or holiday spot all from their computer,” said Jane Sydenham Clarke of Fed Square.
“As Australia Day approaches and stirs the memories of millions of people who received their citizenship, and the expectations of many who are about to receive their citizenship certificate, it is timely to reflect on what it means to be Australian.”
Exploring themes of democracy, politics, culture, immigration, war and society, the website will provide an insight into Australian history and contemporary society.
“By providing themes we are creating a framework for people to submit their stories into their areas of interest and on subjects on which they may wish to make a contribution,” said Ms Sydenham Clarke.
She said that these are stories that make Australia the place it is today - as with federation when the individual States came together to make the whole of Australia - stories from across the nation will provide a unique snap shot of Australia.
"The Federation Story website is about reflecting Australia’s very diverse multicultural community and the personal stories of members of the community.
“While Federation Square is located in Melbourne we are inviting people from all over Australia to participate to reflect Australia’s national character.”
