Be bold and beautiful in red this month and show your support for those suffering from Multiple Sclerosis (MS).

The Kiss Goodbye to MS campaign launches today and culminates in World MS Day on 29th May.

MS Research Australia is challenging everyone to ‘Wear, Dare and Share’ to help raise awareness and funds for support, services and research into MS.

By doing so, you’ll be joining organisations such as the Conrad Treasury Casino and QPAC in Brisbane, Melbourne’s GPO and Canberra’s Black Mountain Telstra Tower – all of whom are glowing red throughout May.

“It’s easy to ‘wear’ something red,” says Jeremy Wright, CEO of MS Research Australia. “It might be an item of clothing, a flower or red lipstick. I’ve heard of a few men who have said they’ll wear some bright red lipstick if they reach a certain fundraising target.”

The ‘dare’ part of the campaign encourages supporters to do something different.

“There are also so many inspirational people doing the most amazing things all aimed at raising funds for research into MS,” said Mr Wright. For example:

Megan Healey has lived with MS for more than 15 years and is riding her ride-on mower from Melbourne to Sydney. She said she is doing the ‘mowdown’ to raise awareness about MS and welcomes any support – financial or moral – on her journey.

Dominique Chaleyer is racing her vintage red Alfa Romeo at various circuits around the country in support of her mother and best friend, both of whom have MS.

Mr Wright said the ‘Share’ element of the campaign is the most important as it’s vital for much-needed funds for those involved in supporting Kiss Goodbye to MS to let others know what they’re doing.

MS is a disease of the central nervous system for which there is no known cause or cure. It affects more than 23,000 people around Australia, with 1,000 Australians diagnosed with MS every year. It generally strikes between 20 and 40 years of age, and three-quarters of those affected are women.
