Company Brings 75 Year-Old Lifesaving Tradition for Infants to New Mums in Australia

The Baby Box Co. today announced its Australian launch, bringing the 75-year-old life-saving tradition of Finnish Baby Boxes, to Australian parents. Credited with helping Finland achieve one of the world's lowest infant mortality rates, Baby Boxes are a starter kit for baby’s first year of life.

A perfect gift for mums-to-be or even a purchase for new parents, the Baby Box includes clothing, blankets, nappies, bath products and other newborn necessities and the box itself has a mattress, which provides a safe sleeping environment for infants up to eight months.

With its built in mattress, Baby Boxes are an important tool for new parents to practice safe sleep, as opposed to babies sleeping in their parents' bed or in cots with blankets, which puts them at a 40 times greater risk of SIDS (Sudden Infant Death Syndrome).

Edwina Lucas, co-founder of The Baby Box Co. in Australia says the Baby Boxes encourage safe sleep practices, aiming to give every baby the best start in life.

“The tradition of Baby Boxes in Europe was based on the idea that every child deserves an equal start in life, and this should be equally true for infants everywhere. Infant safety is our core mission, we are dedicated to helping educate parents and offer an accessible solution for safe sleep. We’re really excited to be bringing The Baby Box Co. to parents outside of Europe and we hope Australian consumers love our product as much as we do.”

Safe sleep is one of the most important priorities for new parents, and can dramatically reduce the risk SIDS.

Josette Barbuto, co-founder of The Baby Box Co.’s Australia office and a Registered Maternal and Child Health Nurse with extensive midwifery and Neonatal Intensive Care experience, explains the importance of partnering with hospitals and non-profits to encourage safe sleep practices and give every baby the best start in life.

“I’ve visited so many families in their homes after the birth of their baby and have seen the real need for the Baby Box in Australia, first hand. When Edwina told me about her vision to bring Baby Boxes to Australian families, I knew I had to be a part of it. The potential for us to partner with government agencies, maternity hospitals and not for profit organisations, to encourage safe sleep practices amongst vulnerable families, is huge - we really have a unique opportunity to improve health outcomes and reduce the socioeconomic gap with Baby Boxes.

“Every Baby Box comes inscribed with ‘Every Child Matters. Every family matters.’ It’s our statement of commitment to putting educational resources and only the best, certified non-toxic products in our boxes.”

The Baby Box Co. is the first company to offer traditional Baby Boxes to consumers outside of Europe. Baby Boxes can be purchased as a standalone item or filled with new baby essentials including everything from swaddle blankets to bath supplies – that are carefully chosen by the experts at The Baby Box Co.
