Your children will spend a lot of time in their bedroom, meaning creating a perfect space for your little one is essential. It can be challenging to know what to spend your money on, especially when children grow out of things so fast. If you want to improve your kids’ bedrooms, here are some great ideas to make the space better for them.

De-Clutter

Less really is more and if their bedroom isn’t big, to begin with, having plenty of toys and clutter around is only going to make the space seem constantly messy. When improving your kid’s bedroom, first look at what you can take away from the space. This leaves more room for improvements and rids you of clutter too. If your child has grown out of toys or clothes, sell them or donate them to a charity store. There is no use hanging onto these unless you have another one on the way. If you do have a garage or somewhere else to store old toys, use this if you want to keep them for future children.

Invest in Comfortable Bedding

When we think about our kids’ bedrooms, it may be that quality bedding isn’t the first thing that comes to mind. Sleep for children is essential for growth and development, meaning investing in a good pillow and mattress for them will provide the best quality sleep. We should be changing these as often as needed and it is worthwhile investing in bedding that will last, rather than a pillow that goes flat within a month.

Remain Neutral

The best way to decorate your kid’s bedroom is in neutral colors. This way, they can add toys and decorations to make it their own, but the neutral canvas will remain the same. This means less re-painting and re-decorating as they age. Children often go through phases where they like a certain color or character. Avoid decorating around this unless you want to be redecorating in a year when they have grown out of it.

Put Yourself in Their Shoes

Don’t decorate your kid’s bedroom with your ideas in mind. The best way to improve their space and create a bedroom they will love is to put yourself in their shoes. Imagine life at their height and work around this when choosing furniture. Opt for lower tables, bins, low hooks, and a desk that is the right size for them and will last at least a few years before they grow too big. When we make the room more accessible for them, we encourage more responsibility from an early age, as they can hang up their own clothes and independently play in a space that is comfortable for them. Remember, kids love all things magic and something as simple as some fairy lights can turn their room into a fairy-tale paradise.

Make the Most of the Space

If you are working with a small space, find alternatives to make more room for your child. Many parents choose bunk beds or attic beds, which provide more space underneath for your child to play. You can find bunk beds which have desks underneath, or an open space, depending on your child’s age. This means being clever with storage too. Use under-bed storage where you can, or built-in furniture can increase that storage space. If you are planning on remaining in the house as your child grows, investing in built-in storage will ensure they have enough space. Kids have a lot of stuff and this doesn’t get better as they age; toys are replaced by books, games and more clothes.

These ideas can help you to improve your kid’s bedroom into a space that offers practicality and room to play. Be sure to make the most of the space and invest in some comfortable bedding.
