With school holidays about to start in New South Wales, Western Australia, South Australia and the ACT, it's a good time to give your child a go at some of the sporting options available during the break, with most of the major sports or their clubs holding holiday coaching clinics.

Coaching clinics are not only a great way of introducing children to a sport if they haven’t already tried it, but also a way of giving kids a healthy and fun activity with their friends.

“Team sports and group activities provide an outlet for kids to be active, and can also help with vital life-lessons in personal values, team work and relationship building skills,” according to Parramatta Eels NRL legend, Nathan Hindmarsh.

Hindmarsh and his wife Bonnie are looking forward to getting their boys involved in outdoor activities these holidays.

“We have three incredibly active and busy boys Archie, Buster and Rowdie and having programs available like NRL school holiday clinics, not only gives mum and dad some respite from the busy days but also helps Nathan and me to balance home and work life too,” Bonnie said.

“The clinics also give the boys something to look forward to during the holiday break.”

Children can begin playing competitive rugby league using modified rules from as young as six years of age and junior teams typically range from Under 6s through to Under 18s. Other sports such as Australian Rules and football also have modified forms of their codes for the youngest age groups and programs such as Little Kickers and Little Rugby are aimed at toddlers.

The NRL holiday clinics will be held around Australia and conducted by qualified NRL Development staff suitable for boys and girls of different skill levels.

Clinics cost no more than a budget conscious $45 and include a ball and training t-shirt.
