Are you ready, parents?

Kids’ parties… they are always GREAT fun for your child… but, not always so much for you and your other adult guests! You want your celebration to be inclusive (and let’s face it when you become a parent there are far less opportunities to socialise). So, how do you make the day fun for all involved?

Plan fun activities for all ages

Your kid’s birthday is an exceptionally memorable moment, and you’ll want to capture that for posterity’s sake. But, why not make it so much more enjoyable for your all your guests by a hiring a fun photo booth? For example, this Sydney photo booth company does it all. They create high-definition, professional snaps whilst providing super cool options that will be sure to keep everyone entertained eg. vintage photo booths, mirror booths, gif booths and even instaprinters!

Make sure you have a space for the adults to chill and don’t force too many activities that heavily involve parents (unless they volunteer). It can be a good idea to hire a babysitter or a child’s entertainer to take care of activities. Just think how much fun the kids will have with a magician, a superhero, a fairy...or, even a ninja! The best thing is that the parents can sit back with a nice drop of merlot (or an ice tea) and watch it all unfold without having to do a thing!

Serve food that everyone can eat

It’s kind of a no-brainer...but, make sure you serve adult friendly food as well as the kiddie party stuff. That means decent portions and items that have a bit of the ‘sophisticated element’ - you don’t have to go all out, but no parent enjoys feeling like they might get diabetes every time they have to attend a children’s celebration! It’s a good idea to make sure you have food that meets dietary requirements such as vegetarian/vegan/dairy free/gluten free and allergen free - always make sure you check beforehand at your invite stage to avoid any mishaps.

This can all sound super complicated - so, if you are feeling stressed why not invest in a caterer? That way, you can rest easy and actually enjoy the nosh at your event and socialise without having to rush about and serve people (both big and small). Then, you can add the obligatory fairy-bread, lollies and snacks as special treats for the little ones. Plus, enough healthy options to make sure they don’t keel over from a sugar rush! For example, carrot and celery sticks and cream cheese, sandwiches and fresh cut fruits.

Keep it simple (and minimise mess)

It might be easy to get all excited about prepping for your kids’ bday party, with all the fancy minute details...but, remember you have to clean up during... and afterwards! Therefore, always plan solely with the purpose of minimising potential mess, accidents and all round kerfuffles. No one wants to be peeling paint of their children for days (after a paintball fight), or dealing with a concussion (from a pool party when a game of ‘marco polo’ gets way out of hand)!

Also, if you are hosting your child’s first birthday…well, it may be a big deal for you and your partner...but, for your little one (and all bystanders) there is the distinct possibility that it can all get old...and, quite quickly! These kinds of celebrations are best kept as intimate as possible as there is a limitation on what can be planned to generate activity or take up any real sense of time. Your one-year-old won’t have a clue what is going on... and all you might get are some tantrums and a lot of cake being thrown about! Not exactly a fantastic party atmosphere, to say the least!

How to throw a kid’s party that parents will enjoy.

It may seem hard to believe… but, YES… you can have a kids’ party that is also fun for adults. By following the above tips and with a sensible approach that offers a compromise for all involved, you hosting skills will be surely be a hit with both kids and parents alike!
