How to enjoy alone time as a mother:

Take that much needed break, mum!

Cover why mums need a break

Free time is a rare blessing when you’re a mother. There’s always someone in need of help, something in need of cleaning, and somewhere you’re supposed to be driving everybody. In fact, studies have even shown that the modern day mum spends too much time with her kids (even though it might not feel like it). So, when you finally get some time to yourself you might be stuck for ideas of what to do. So, if you’re overwhelmed by having some time to yourself, here some ideas for how to make the most of it.

Pamper Yourself

It’s important to unwind form stress. Stress can ravage your physical and mental health and having young children can be one of the most stressful responsibilities you’ll ever face. So, when you get some free time alone, the best thing you can do is treat yourself. Run yourself a hot bath, meditate, get a facial, use that foot massager you got as a present years ago but never had time to try out.

Whatever you need to do to get you feeling fresh and happy, take the time to do it.

Get in touch with who you are

Having kids is great, but sometimes it can feel that you’ve lost sight of who you are and become a ‘mother’. Obviously, being a mother is a part of who you are, but that’s not everything you are. Are there any hobbies you dropped? Are there any friends you’ve lost contact with? Is there anything you’ve wanted to do but forgot about? Take the time to reacquaint yourself with the things you enjoy. Paint, dance, talk and laugh like you used to for a little while and when your alone time comes to an end you’ll feel completely refreshed.

Veg out

As great as it is to be productive during our free time and make the most of it, sometimes it’s okay to not want to. We spend all day on our feet running around after everyone and constantly thinking about what needs to be done that when it comes to our time alone the last thing we might want to do is think about and plan things. So, why not take the opportunity to do…nothing? ‘Nothing’ has a very important role in our lives. It’s a time for us to switch our brains off and just be for a while. Plus, it’s a lot of fun. All you have to do is sleep in late, watch a movie, and browse the internet. The internet is a great place to find mindless entertainment. Play games, watch videos of cats, take a few cheesy personality quizzes. If you’re the type to dabble with poker you could use the Ladbrokes Poker name generator to waste some time and also help you decide on your online casino screen name.

Ultimately, time spent alone should be time spent doing what you want to do. There’s nothing wrong with being a little selfish and enjoying some time away from your kids. They’ll love you just the same after you’ve finished your time alone and you’ll feel a lot more energised and happy spending time with the rest of your family.
