Gold telethon motherpedia cover

They say it takes a village to raise a child, and we believe that it takes a whole “army” to care for a sick child. Just last year, over 45,000 children and their families sought treatment and specialized care. That’s 880 new patients each day—many of whom urgently need support! And we’re here to help them.

The 2016 Gold Telethon is happened yesterday, with a goal to raise $5.4m to treat sick kids and save young lives. This is a big campaign that will help give these kids the best possible care available, to give them their best chance of survival.

Your support will ensure that every child who walks through the doors of Sydney Children’s Hospital will get access to their own personal ‘army of care’ to help them fight every step of the way—just like Eve, the official ‘face’ of this year’s Gold Telethon.

Eve is just like any normal 10-year old girl who loves art and music (especially Taylor Swift), except for one thing. She is fighting cancer.

Eve was diagnosed with osteosarcoma in April last year after telling her mum that her 'leg hurt'. She spent 10 months in the Hospital where she endured 8 rounds of chemotherapy and then underwent major surgery to remove her tumour and her entire thigh bone (called her tibia) from her leg. They replaced her tibia with an expandable metal bar and gave her an entire knee replacement. After the surgery, Eve was confined to a Hospital bed for 2 whole weeks. During this time, she was given medication on a daily and sometimes hourly basis to help her cope with her pain.

Eve is now undergoing extensive physiotherapy to regain the use of her leg and learn to walk again. She is just 10 years old.

For Eve, her 'army' in the Hospital includes her oncologist, doctors, nurses, cancer pharmacist, physiotherapists, Hospital teachers and Art Educators—all recruited to give Eve the support she needs to fight this awful disease and begin her long road to recovery.

This was made possible with everyone’s support. Eve is fighting, every child in the same situation as her is fighting too—and they need all of us to fight with them.

Make your donation today! With June 30 just weeks away, you can make your donation now and claim it in this current financial year. You’ll receive a tax deductible receipt as soon as you complete your donation.

No child should be on their own in their battle. Let’s help them by giving our support!
