New year and you feel like a new hair-do? We spoke to three top Aussie hairdressers, as judged by the Australian Hair Fashion Awards at the end of last year, to get their tips for the top style trends in 2015.
The awards are judged by a panel of international industry professionals, and attract thousands of entries each year.

"Always work with what your hair naturally does. As soon as you go against it, you have to commit to spending time on it. You want a cut that looks great with minimal effort, but if you want to really dress it up. You can always blow-dry and style up a storm."

- Shatter outlines not blunt lines
- Tousled beach / grunge finishes
- Putting it out there, but perms will make a soft come back. (larger rollers though, not poodle perms)
- Bold soft shapes (with a perm to boot)
- Return of the fringe
- Grown out Pixie cuts.
Secret styling tip
- Dirty hair can be your best friend. Don’t over wash your hair, if you need to restyle in the morning, just damping it by running your wet fingers through it in the shower, then restyle. It’s much quicker and by not washing it, you have a quarter of the frizz / fluff to fight with.
How to beat a bad hair day
- Dry shampoo and a great braid can make bad hair look catwalk in 5 minutes.

“I definitely tell my clients that less is more. You don't need to overdose on hair product. You need hair product, but only a few that will complement your hair, ie. if your hair is fine, invest in good shampoo and conditioner that will plump your hair up. Then grab a couple of stying products that won't weigh your hair down, but give it more volume.
“I recommend to always colour your hair, going with the seasons. This will keeps you hair fresh and current eg if you are a blonde, go for a warmer nutty blonde in winter and a cooler lighter blonde in summer.”

“For a great hair it is not just about a good haircut and colour, you will need to make sure you always keep your hair in good condition because there is nothing worse than having trashy dry split ends when you try to style your hair. Even if you can style it, it will never look good.”
Top trend
- Side part bob or side part lob! It’s even better if you tuck one side behind your ear! It’s soft, fresh and easy to wear.
Secret styling tip
- For volume, a must do before you run your brush through your hair to style it is - after towel drying your hair, always use a root lift product for volume and blow dry your hair upside down until its approximately 70% dry. Make sure you always massage the roots when you blow dry upside down it will give you nice and soft volume before you start to style your hair.
How to beat a bad hair day
- You can't go past dry shampoo and a braid.
