This year, on Friday 2 November Subway restaurants around Australia are coming together for the second year in a row to fight food insecurity in celebration of World Sandwich Day.

With an ever-increasing number of Australians experiencing food insecurity and the demand for food relief reaching crisis levels in some areas, Subway Australia’s biggest event of the year, the Subway Live Feed is set to help school children, families in regional and remote areas experiencing food scarcity, and people in need.

In partnership with leading food relief organisation Foodbank, every guest who visits Subway and purchases a sub, salad or wrap on Friday November 2 will get another one free, and Subway will donate the cost of a meal through Foodbank to those seeking hunger relief.

In 2017 on World Sandwich Day, 13 million meals were donated globally, and 280,000 meals were donated in Australia alone, directly helping communities who experience food insecurity and anxiety, including more than 2,400 charities and 1,750 schools.

Together with Foodbank, Subway aims to donate more than 300,000 meals this year, making a difference to school children, families experiencing food scarcity, and people in need.

CEO of Foodbank Australia, Brianna Casey says 2017 World Sandwich Day efforts were such a fantastic success that they are thrilled to be partnering with Subway again this year.

“Last year’s efforts helped raise funds that supported more than 280,000 meals for Australian families in need. This is crucial for us as we try to reach hungry and vulnerable Aussies across the country.

It’s hard to imagine what 280,000 meals actually looks like but it provides the equivalent of $3.5 million in benefits to health, emotional wellbeing, sense of self-worth, social relationships and ultimately overall standard of living for the food relief recipients.”

Each donation on Friday 2 November, in celebration of World Sandwich Day, will be captured on the Subway Live Feed digital tracker, and guests are invited to follow the progress of hitting the target of 300,000 meals or beyond via http://www.SubwayLiveFeed.com.au.

What began as a fun way to celebrate the humble sandwich last year, has turned into a powerful global fundraising initiative for Subway. Subway’s Country Director for Australia & New Zealand is urging Australians to get behind the event to support the brand in making a difference to Australians in need.

“Subway invites the whole community to get behind our Subway Live Feed initiative this year. All participating Subway restaurants, from regional locations such as Manjimup and Toowoomba to our metro restaurants across Sydney, Melbourne, Brisbane, Adelaide and Perth will be celebrating on November 2.”

“We recognise food insecurity as one of the silent issues so many families and people in need around Australia face, and we are committed to driving change through the Subway Live Feed event. The humble submarine sandwich is now a vehicle to drive a positive change within our community.”

Subway invites all guests across the country to come in and participate in the celebrations. Celebrity guests can be found across Australia in various restaurants, with activities and entertainment scheduled to add to the excitement of the day. Enjoy a lunch or dinner friends and family this Friday, 2 November, and help those experiencing food insecurity around Australia.
