In recent times, people have been more concerned with washing their hands than ever before. These efforts are made in an attempt to stop the spread of germs, bacteria, and COVID-19. With the increase in vigorous hand washing, many people have suffered from dry or irritated hands.

This irritation occurs because some hand soap can strip away the skin's natural oils. However, it also strips away harmful bacteria that cause illness. For this reason, frequent hand washing can seem like a double-edged sword. Thankfully, the solution is simple. Choose a hand wash that supports your skin while also cleansing effectively.

Hand Sanitizer With Essential Oils

Strictly speaking, hand sanitizer is not a soap. However, it is a vital tool for keeping yourself safe when you don't have access to soap and water. After leaving the supermarket or touching a public door handle, hand sanitizer is the perfect remedy. However, many hand sanitizer types are harsh, and they don't smell good either. Consider switching to a moisturizing or essential oil-infused hand sanitizer. Instead of drying out your hands every time you kill germs, you'll be giving them a boost of hydration. Not to mention, essential oils smell a lot better than alcohol.

Exfoliating Hand Wash

Keeping an exfoliating hand wash is an excellent way to guarantee soft hands. Sometimes, dead skin cells and deep-set impurities build up on the skin's surface. Despite routine washing, hands are no exception. An exfoliating cleanser lifts and scrubs away dead skin cells, revealing fresh, soft hands underneath. Once you feel how soft your hands are after that first use, you may be tempted to stock every sink in the house with an exfoliating cleanser. Unfortunately, it is possible to overdo it when it comes to exfoliation. Try adding just one exfoliator to your collection for occasional deep cleaning.

Moisturizing Hand Wash

This type of hand soap is especially beneficial for people with dry skin. Moisturizing your skin not only improves its health by restoring your natural barrier, but it improves its appearance, too. Adequately hydrated skin has a radiant complexion and smooth texture. Suppose you have noticed that your hands look or feel drier than usual as of late. In that case, you might benefit from a hydrating hand cleanser.

Avoid dull skin the effective way by swapping your plain soap for a richly nourishing one. Washing your hands regularly is the best form of disease control. Many people don't realize how many surfaces they touch each day that are covered in harmful bacteria and viruses. Restaurant menus, touch screens, and exit/entryways house millions of unseen germs. However, the surfaces in your own home may also contribute to the need for frequent hand washing. A few of the dirtiest places in your home include ...

  • Bathroom light switches

  • Refrigerator handle

  • Makeup bag

  • Remote controls

It can help to regularly wipe these surfaces clean with an antibacterial, multi-surface cleaner. However, washing your hands is the most effective remedy for germs. Pro tip: make sure you scrub the back of your hands as well as your palms. These areas are commonly overlooked and can actually be home to just as many germs as your fingers and palms. After you have completed your handwashing routine, make sure you follow up with a clean towel.

Drying your hands with a dirty towel after taking the time to scrub them clean will undo all the work you have done to keep germs at bay. To make sure you spend enough time at the sink, remember the happy birthday rule. Singing happy birthday twice ensures that you have washed your hands for an effective amount of time.
