Blinds

Vertical blinds in the modern form have been around since 1950, when they were invented by Edward and Frederick Bopp in Kansas City, Missouri, and they became a patented design by 1960. These days you’ll find vertical blinds in tens of thousands of homes throughout Australia, and likely tens of millions around the world.

Decorating your home with vertical blinds is a wise choice, and in this post we’ll look at some advantages and things to keep in mind.

They Are Very Versatile

By their sheer design and simplicity, vertical blinds are super versatile. Whether you have small windows or large, or even glass sliding doors, vertical blinds can be made to order to fit any window space.

You can even use them on unusually-shaped windows. These would obviously have to be made to order, but it can definitely be done, and they look fantastic.

Vertical Blinds Are Budget Friendly

Some more sophisticated blinds, such as panel glides and Roman blinds can cost a little more, but for the most part stock standard vertical blinds are the perfect choice for the budget conscious, as you get great blinds that will last for years at extremely competitive prices.

Perfect for Rental Properties

Because of their sheer versatility and value for money, many property investors choose to install vertical blinds in their rental properties. They are easy for tenants to use, they last a long time and are very low maintenance. In fact, they can stay looking great for years with very minimal cleaning, depending on the environment they’re in.

If the blinds get damaged, replacement parts and panels are readily available, and repair jobs usually don’t cost a lot.

So many rental properties in Australia are decked out with vertical blinds for these reasons.

Go Neutral Or Go Colourful

The choice is totally yours.

Many vertical blinds are either white, beige or a light grey. These neutral colours ensure the blinds will blend in nicely with just about any decor or colour scheme. Neutral colours don’t clash and they are very “safe”.

On the other hand, you’re not restricted to neutral colours alone when it comes to vertical blinds. There are options out there with more personality, colours that truly make a statement and can add an appealing contrast to any room.

How about a bold maroon or a sunny yellow? You can even go for dark colours, like a deep grey or black; perfect for blocking out that morning light so you have a chance to sleep in.

Adjust the Angle Of the Light

You can open these blinds to any angle you like, letting in loads of light or just a little. That’s the advantage of both vertical blinds as well as horizontal blinds, like the classic Venetian. Angle adjustment.

This is also really helpful when it comes to privacy. Obviously, for the ultimate in privacy, you would close them right up, but opened to just the right angle, you can let in daylight without prying eyes being able to see inside.

It’s all down to the immense versatility of vertical blinds.

Vertical Blinds Don’t Attract Much Dust

Because all the panels are vertical rather than horizontal, there really are no surfaces for dust to collect on. They will attract small amounts of dust, but nothing like the kind of dust that can collect on horizontal blinds.

There really isn’t much in the way of cleaning involved, but if you do need to clean them (or just a panel or two), it’s actually very easy. If you don’t fancy cleaning them yourself, then there are companies that specialise in cleaning blinds of all varieties.

Absorb Sound With Honeycomb Cell Blinds

Vertical blinds with panels made from the honeycomb cell pattern are like mini soundproofing devices. Now while they don’t completely block out noise from outside, this particular style of blind does absorb a lot of exterior noise when they’re fully closed, offering you a more peaceful night’s sleep, or less outside distractions when watching the TV at low volume.

They also help to insulate windows.

The Wrap

As you can see, vertical blinds really are the most versatile answer when it comes to decorating your windows. Whether made to order or straight off the shelf, you’ll find they’re one of the best investments you’ll ever make.
