Being free. Taking charge of life. Feeling the exhilaration of being independent. It’s what most of us want to have at every stage of life. Is it possible? Can we actually look forward to living an active lifestyle year after year? YES! More than hoping for the best, it can actually be done. So mentally motor ahead. Expect to be independent. It’s good for your health.

Take the road to independence

Independence is being in control of your daily life. It means being able to think for yourself, make decisions – big and small, take care of your welfare, pay bills, handle money, etc. While it may seem enjoyable to let a friend or family member do this, over-reliance on them can undermine independence. It can erode or prevent the practice of old and new life-skills, such as using a computer, participating in the workforce or undertaking useful, enjoyable activities.

Being and staying independent, is important for mental and personal wellbeing. No life-event, illness, or accumulated years need bring about a loss of personal freedom. At every age, it’s possible to stay happy, healthy, capable and productive. How? Check out the tips below and put them into action.

TIPS:

  • Be a can-do person. You were created a competent thinker. Know you can rely on your inner resources and a divine Love to accomplish what you need to do at every stage of life. If you’re currently being challenged don’t give up. You can rebound and keep travelling along the freedom road.
  • Be confident. You've been given “power, love and a sound mind” - The Bible - 2 Timothy 1:7 You are in charge of your life. You have the power and wisdom to make it, and keep it, good.
  • Be an independent thinker. You don’t have to be influenced or controlled by others in regard to your health, finances, life-style, opinions or conduct. You can think and act for yourself. A divine Power has endowed you with “inalienable rights, among which are self-government”. – Mary Baker Eddy Science and Health p.106
  • Be fearless. Speak up. Don’t let others do the thinking or talking for you. You’re able to ask for, and receive, guidance or assistance when you need it. “Right motives give pinions to thought, and strength and freedom to speech and action”. Mary Baker Eddy Science and Health p. 454
  • Be strong. Hold on to your freedom. Stand on your own two feet. You can be self-sufficient. You can take care of yourself always. So journey on. Be independent. It’s good for your health.
