With Victorians still shivering through winter, snow bunnies can rejoice – with plenty of snow at the seven Victorian snow resorts, there’s never been a better time to go to the snow!
“From the snow-capped mountains to snow ball fights, September is shaping up to be the perfect time for families to visit the Victorian snow resorts. As we near the end of the season, the resorts are offering special packages, like kids ski free, and it’s the perfect time to learn to ski with fewer people on the slopes,” says Lorena Gibson, Marketing and Communications Officer, Alpine Resorts Co-ordinating Council.
“There’s also plenty of snow at all of the Victorian snow resorts, and that looks set to continue through September. It’s the perfect time for people to experience everything a snow experience can offer, from tobogganing, taking learn to ski or snowboard lessons, dog sled tours, as well as the great cafes, restaurants and entertainment.”
Whether a first-time visitor to the snow, or someone that hasn’t returned in a while, there’s something for everyone to do and some amazing packages for the rest of the season, including:
Just three hours from Melbourne, Mt Buller is offering discounted accommodation deals including up to 50% of accommodation, lodge beds from just $55 a night, as well as deals where kids stay and eat absolutely free!
Falls Creek – ‘Bring a First Timer Free’ in September – take a friend or family members to Falls Creek for the first-time, and they can ski or snowboard for free. This special offer includes a two-hour first-time ski or snowboard lesson, 1 day access to Falls Creek's favourite first-timer lifts, and 1 day ski or snowboard rental.
Mt Baw Baw – ski peak snow at off-peak prices! Stay at one of Mt Baw Baw’s selectaccommodation options and receive heavily discounted package deals. Mt Baw Baw has also slashed prices on mid-week lift tickets for the remainder of the season, ski or board for just $25 per person Monday-Friday.
Mt Hotham – hang out with your friends with the ‘Mates Rates’ deal – for any group of four adults who visits mid-week, one person receives free lift, lessons and/or rentals, in September.
Victoria’s alpine resorts include Mt Buller/Mt Stirling, Mt Hotham, Falls Creek, Lake Mountain, Mt Baw Baw and Dinner Plain, and each resort offers a unique snow experience. Whether you’re looking for a quick getaway with friends, a snow holiday with your family, a day-trip with the kids, or a romantic weekend escape for two, a snow getaway in Victoria has something to offer everyone.
With mountains of choice across Victoria’s alpine resorts, this snow season is Go Season. To find out more, visit and get ready to go to the snow this September!
Family Time
Giddy up!
Bring a smile to the kids in a journey with the husky dogs that is filled with tradition, wonder and education. This is a ride you will never forget! Husky Tours at available at a number of the Victoria resorts, including Mt Hotham and Baw Baw.
Snow Flicks
Just imagine the kids belting out ‘Let it Go’ from Frozen in the chilly surrounds of the snow! At Mt Buller, catch one of the latest movies at the highest movie cinema in Australia. Stock up on Chock Tops and select from a choice of two movies per night.
Snow Bunnies
Over September, the Victorian snow resorts are a little quieter, but there’s still plenty of the fluffy stuff, so it’s the perfect time to learn to ski. Children from as young as 3 years old can participate in group snowsports lessons at all resorts.  Kids can also try tobogganing or have a mega snowball fight challenge – there’s an abundance of snow play areas at all resorts for family fun!
The Romantics
Take in the magnificent surroundings
Surrounded by mountainous peaks and snow-filled scenery, the Victorian alpine regions are unlike any in the world. They’re heavily vegetated up to many of the mountain peaks and the unique snow gums contrast with the rugged rocky terrain and breathtaking lakes to create a landscape like no other. Take a scenic chairlift ride with the one you love to fully enjoy the spectacular surrounds.
Up and away
Take in the clouds on a scenic helicopter flight and enjoy spectacular views of Mt Buller/Mt
Stirling and the stunning vistas of the High Country. A range of tours are available that take in the Mt Buller/Mt Stirling areas and Falls Creek.
The heat is on
At Dinner Plain, the Onsen Retreat + Spa is an indoor and outdoor Alpine Spa Retreat featuring a Japanese Inspired outdoor Onsen and an indoor heated pool. Luxuriate in the hot waters of the Onsen and then share a Bento Box by the fire.
Food Frenzy
On the Radar
Radius Bar & Grill at Marysville, just near Lake Mountain, is the perfect spot to sample Executive Chef Leigh Colville’s tasty food. Formerly of Chateau Yering, The Press Club, and Maha, Leigh showcases the best produce from the region.
Oldie but goodie
Settle in with a good read over an afternoon tipple in the cocooning alpine setting, The Last Run Bar at Mt Hotham has been a favourite for twenty years. Sitting at the back of the village on the south side, you can look right up the Summit.
Sweet escape
Try the famous Salzburger Nockerl - a huge hazelnut and chocolate chip soufflé served with hot chocolate sauce, vanilla ice cream and berries - at Kaptans Restaurant in Mt Buller.
