A new National “Cereal Social Trends” Survey conducted by then Australian Breakfast Cereal Manufacturers Forum (ABCMF) has confirmed the average cost of eating breakfast cereal and milk is less than a dollar a day compared to the average café and takeaway breakfast food cost of nearly $6.002 but only a half of the adult population are taking advantage of the savings and nutrition benefits of eating breakfast cereal regularly.

“There are clear benefits for Aussies to eat cereal for breakfast,” says Leigh Reeve, Director of ABCMF.

“A family can enjoy an annual holiday or head to the movies almost once a week from the money saved by making simple and nutritious decisions at breakfast time. And waistlines are slimmer for cereal eaters too.”

People who eat breakfast cereal regularly are more likely to be slimmer than those who don’t eat breakfast or breakfast cereal,” Leigh says.

ABCMF’s “Cereal Social Trends” study found women were more likely to eat breakfast every morning than men.

The study also found that there is a growing trend amongst Aussie workers, with 20% of full time employees now eating breakfast at work.

NSW is the state leading this trend. “It appears that the convenience factor is having an influence on eating breakfast at work too,” says Leigh.

Love my cereal and so do the kids. But I bet people are stopping buying and eating cereal because of the many diet warnings/advice to cut down on carbs.
