This is great Tammy. A fantastic article for parents seeking to find a way to get their child to like wearing glasses.
When I was a child, I had to wear glasses but I can remember there was only one choice and I was the only one in my junior school who had to wear them. Now that it is different.
If I could add just one tip…. I would suggest getting two pairs for your school age children - one they can leave at school, and one for home. I did this through an Optician and with my private health cover it only cost me $30.00 for both of them.
It was the best thing I ever did.

As a counselling professional, I commend these programs for their holistic and preventative approach to mental health. It is imperative that we act collectively to reinforce a sense of community in our schools, with parents, teachers, admin, principals, and the wider community coming together to support not only the children that are our future but each other. Families, educators and of course the children can only benefit from the awareness and practical tools offered by the KidsMatter and MindMatters programs. In the long run, everyone wins!

MindMatters was taken up eventually in my kids Secondary school after many troubling events with kids attempting suicide. It has transformed the school which is now much more tuned in to supporting students and building strong links with community agencies and the students get involved with programs that grow them socially and emotionally. When MindMatters ran training with teachers and some of our school council members we found out they only have two people to service the whole state of Victoria. Perhaps we could start by funding great initiatives like this properly if we seriously want to address this sad issue of youth suicide and help our kids with skills to maintain their health and wellbeing.

Found this a very helpful article as I have a troubled teen. We give her love and don’t put pressure on but I know she needs support. Whoever knew of these two programs. Thank you.
P.S. I hope motherpedia has more articles like this.

Core strenghtening is so important for mums to be, and new mums. As a physio I see a lot of women who have recently given birth, and have injured their backs lifting their baby in and out of car seats, up from the floor, etc, etc. I have decided to offer a mums n bubs post pregnancy exercise class to help rehabilitate the core and pelvic floor. The first ever class was held this morning, very exciting!
